‘Southern Temple and Backwaters Tour’ will give you the chance to explore some of the most beautiful destinations of Kerala along with that you will also get the chance to visit the holiest temples of Madurai such as Meenakshi Amman Temple and Tirumalai Nayak Palace. One of the ancient city of India, Madurai is the home of various historical monuments and temples, among them Meenakshi Amman Temple and Tirumalai Nayak temple are most popular.
 
Kerala is known as the most charming state in Southern India. Located on Malabar Coast, the state is blessed with natural beauty in the form of beaches, mountain ranges, wildlife, backwaters and lush green paddy fields.
 
During the tour also explore the splendid backwaters, stunning hill stations of this region. Also explore The Periyar wildlife Sanctuary and Tiger Resave and Kumarakom bird sanctuary, here enjoy the exotic flora and fauna of Kerala.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive Madurai (By flight)

On arrival at Madurai, meet our representative, after welcoming, proceed to the hotel. It is one of the oldest cities of India, which is the third largest city of Tamil Nadu. Renowned for its rich culture, tradition and history. The city has various historical monuments and temples, among them Meenakshi Amman Temple and Tirumalai Nayak Palace are most popular. Check in at your pre-booked hotel. Rest day is free at leisure.

Overnight stay in Madurai. 

Day 2 Madurai

After breakfast, proceed for a temple tour covering Mariamman Teppakulam temple, Meenakshi Temple and the Palace of Thirumalai Nayak. In the evening attend the prayer ceremony at the Meenakshi temple. After the visit, return back to the hotel.

Overnight stay in Madurai.

Day 3 Madurai – Periyar (Approx. 3.5 hours drive)

Today after having an early breakfast, proceed to Periyar by road. The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary and Tiger Resave is one of the oldest protected areas in the country, surrounded by dense forest along with the green grasslands. On arrival, check into a jungle lodge. In the evening, enjoy bird watching while boat riding on the Periyar Lake where you can spot both resident and migratory birds. Night stay in the lodge.

Day 4 Periyar – Kumarakom (Approx. 3.5 hours drive)

Post breakfast, proceed to Kumarakom by road. One of the most popular tourist destinations in Kerala which is renowned for its amazing backwater, located on the Vembanad Lake. The backwater fishing village is indeed a heaven, and has had its attractions advertised by some stunning top end resorts by the side of Vembanad Lake. En route enjoy the breathtaking lush green surroundings. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel and spend the rest of the day in leisure.

Overnight stay in Kumarakom.

Day 5 Kumarakom

After breakfast, proceed to Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary. Protected by a thick cluster of mangroves, the bird sanctuary spreads across 14 acres and is home to over 180 species of birds. It is best to visit on foot by one and half kilometres on walking trek, where you are likely to spot heron, darters, water duck, waterfowl, owl, cuckoo and Siberian cranes. After visiting the sanctuary, return back to the hotel.

Overnight stay in Kumarakom.

Day 6 Kumarakom – Alleppey (Approx. 01 hour drive)

Have breakfast and drive to Alleppey. Also known as Alappuzha, the oldest planned city of Kerala. It is famous for backwaters. There are at least six navigable canals in the town. In the east they open to the backwater connecting the city to the mesh of backwater trials, which are a buzz with reinvented kettuvallams (houseboats). On arrival at Alleppey, check in to the houseboat. Rest day is free at leisure, enjoy the surroundings of backwater. Night stay at houseboat.

Day 7 Alleppey – Cochin (Approx. 01 hour drive)

Today after having an early breakfast, drive to Cochin. Situated on the south-west coast in Kerala. Also known as the Gateway to Kerala, located on the Arabian Sea. The city was also influenced by British, Dutch, and Portuguese, who have left their indelible marks which are spread over the city through the beautiful architecture, culture and traditions. Upon arrival check in to the hotel. Rest day is free at leisure.

Day 8 Cochin

Post breakfast, proceed for a sightseeing tour of Cochin, covering the major attractions such as Mattancherry Palace, St. Francis Church as well as the Jewish Synagogue. In the evening enjoy a Kathakali Dance performance in the theatre. (Optional)
 
Overnight stay in Cochin.
 

Day 9 Departure Day

On the last day of the tour, after having an early breakfast, proceed to the Cochin airport to take your flight for your onward destination.
