Ashokan Rock Edict situated on Dhauli Giri Hills is a famous tourist attraction of Bhubaneshwar as it plays an important role in Kalinga war fought by Emperor Ashoka and is believed that this edict is the oldest record in the Indian history. Secondly, this edict is said to be the oldest records in the Indian history. One can find inscriptions of Ashoka’s ideologies and principles carved on it while visit to this edict. There are around 33 inscriptions which is primarily Pali, carved on the stones, pillars and boulders of the edict. The most surprising fact about these inscriptions is you can still see it prominently in spite of its existence since 3rd century BC.
