Agra is a popular tourist destination situated in the state of Uttar Pradesh located on the western banks of the river, Yamuna. The name of this city has been derived from the city’s ancient name Agrevana, means ‘border of the forest’. It is the home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World ‘The Taj Mahal’, which was built by Shah Jahan for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is the major attraction of Agra that is considered to be a heritage place by UNESCO. It is a great place to visit. Agra is an ancient city which is mentioned in the great epic of Hindus, ‘The Mahabharata’. During Mahabharata period, Agra was called as Agraban. As per 2007, Agra is the second most self-employed city in India after Varanasi. Many popular characters and philosophers are from this place. Once it was the capital of Mughal Empire. There are a lot of awe-factors in this land starting from the local relishing cuisine to Indo-Persian architecture. Apart from this, there are many other ancient tombs, monuments and buildings which attracts a lot of tourist from all over the world.

  • Taj Mahal, Agra: Taj Mahal is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Agra. It is a magnificent monument built by Shah Jahan for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is the major attraction of Agra that is considered to be a heritage place by UNESCO. The intricate carvings and architecture will leave you mesmerized. It draws millions of tourists from all over the world. Taj Mahal is also called as the epitome of love.
  • Agra Fort, Agra:  Agra Fort is another tourist attraction in Agra built by Mughal Emperor Akbar. 4,000 workers worked for the for eight years to finish its construction in 1573. Some of the major attractions in Agra Fort that will leave you mesmerized are structures like the Sheesh Mahal, Moti Mahal, Jehangir’s Palace and Khas Mahal. During the rule of Shah Jahan, Agra fort was renovated.
  • Akbar’s Tomb, Agra:  It is a majestic monument built in 1605–1613 by Akbar’s son named Salim, who is also called as Jahangir.  It was beautifully carved, made of red sandstone. The monument is open for visitors on all days.
  • Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah/ Baby Taj, Agra: The Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah is made of white marble from Rajasthan and has semi-precious stones. The construction began in 1622 and completed in 1628. The mausoleum is often referred as the draft of Taj Mahal or Baby Taj. It is often described as a “jewel box”. The structure consists of numerous outbuildings and gardens.
  • Guru ka Tal, Agra: It is a religious place for the people of the Sikh community. It is a popular gurudwara which was constructed here in 1970s. It draws maximum pilgrimage tourist as being both a historical and religious site.
