Amarkantak is a pilgrimage town in Anuppur of Madhya Pradesh state. The ancient name of this place was Riksha parvat. It is a unique natural heritage destination and a meeting point of the Vindhya and the Satpura Ranges along with the Maikal Hills. This place is well-known after the popular 15th century Indian poet named Kabir who is said to have meditated on Kabir Chabutra. This Kabir Chabutra is also called as the platform of Kabir. There are ancient temples of Kalachuri period that were built by Kalachuri Maharaja Karnadeva during 1041–1073 AD. This town is surrounded by a rich variety of flora with medicinal properties. It is one of the homes of the Pandavas during their exile that is mentioned in the Mahabharata. It is a popular hill station apart from being a pilgrimage destination. Amarkantak receives large number of tourists throughout the year.

  • Narmada kund, Amarkantak: Narmada kund is located in the heart of Amarkantak and is the most significant parts of Amarkantak. This is the place which is believe to be the origination of river. It is surrounded by 16 stone temples like the Narmada Temple, Lord Shiva Temple, Annapurna Temple, Guru Gorakhnath Temple, Shri Ram Janki Temple and Shri Radha Krishna Temple.
  • Shri Jwaleshwar Mahadev, Amarkantak: It is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the Gods of the Hindu triumvirate. The legend behind the formation of this temple states that when Lord Shiva killed the selfish demon Tripurasura into three pieces.
  • The Ancient Temples of Kalachuri, Amarkantak: The ancient Temples of Kalachuri of Amarkantak were built during 1041–1073 AD that was constructed under Kalachuri Maharaja Karnadeva located towards the south. They reflect the sheer brilliance of the Kalachuri architecture.
  • Sonemuda, Amarkantak: Sonemuda is located at a distance of around 1.5 km from the Narmadakund Temples. It is considered to be the place of origin of the Son River. There is a thin source of water emerging from this kund, which further flows through a small opening into a nallah.  There is also a temple which is situated deep in the forest known as Jwaleshwar Mahadev.
