Aurangabad is a tourist hub city of historical monuments. The city Aurangabad was named after a great Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Its ancient history dates back up to the eras of Buddhism, but the modern history of Aurangabad is traced back to 1610, founded by Malik Ambar, who was an Ethiopian and played a significant military role in the Deccan region of India. This city is a gateway to the World Heritage UNESCO Sites of Ajanta and Ellora caves. One of the most fascinating archaeological sites in Maharashtra. This city was dotted with total 52 historic gates where few gates are into existence and so it is known as the ‘City of Gates’. As the city is a significant tourist destinations, it is declared as the ‘Tourism Capital of Maharashtra’. There are several tourist attractions that serves as a transit point for Pitalkhora, Daulatabad, Khultabad, Paithan and Shirdi. Tourism has emerged as one of the Heritage city in the state of Maharashtra. It has become one of the favorite tourist destination globally. 

Main Attractions
  • Bibi-Ka-Maqbara, Aurangabad: It is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Aurangabad. It is a beautiful mausoleum of Rabia-ul-Daurani alias Dilras Banu Begum who is the wife of the Mughal Emperor Aurangazeb. This mausoleum is a replica of Taj Mahal in Agra. An inscription found on the main entrance door mentions that this mausoleum was designed and erected by Ata-ullah, an architect.
  • Panchakki, Aurangabad: Panchakki is also known as water mill. It is taken from the mill which used to grind grain for the pilgrims. While visiting Panchakki, tourist can also visit the Baba Shah Mosafar Dargah, a Sufi saint. There is a beautiful garden near the Mahmud Darwaza.
  • Aurangabad Caves, Aurangabad: The Aurangabad caves are located on a hill running roughly east to west, behind Bibi-ka-Maqbara. These caves are twelve rock-cut Buddhist shrines. The definite attraction of the Aurangabad caves are its sculptures. It is surroundings with lush greenery and ancient rock cut caves welcome you to the magnificence of Maharashtra.
  • Jama Masjid, Aurangabad: Jama Masjid has a historically significant built in 1612 AD, located near the Killa Arrak of Aurangabad. It is one of the oldest mosques of Aurangabad. Later, it was extended by Aurangzeb in the year 1692 AD. It is a must visiting place because of its splendid and beautiful structure.  
  • Baradari Iwaz Khan Aqueduct, Aurangabad: It is a major tourist attraction and a place of interest of romantic couples. It is a historical place in central Aurangabad of which only the rubble and ruin remain in place today. The walls of the complex have been beaten up and partially disintegrated due to the passage of time and due to the numerous attacks of the Maratha warriors during many historical wars.
