Bageshwar is a district in the state of Uttarakhand situated in the foothills of mountains. It is in the Kumaon division of Uttarakhand. It is also known as the Land of Shiva. Bageshwar has a great historic and religious significant. It is home to several temples and shrine. The place got its name from Baghnath Temple which is one of the most popular temple in Bageshwar. This temple is mainly dedicated to Lord Shiva. This city was the tehsil of Almora District. Later it became an independent district after it was separated from Almora on 15th September 1997. This is the place where gods and sages came to mediate Lord Shiva. It is considered to have the blessings of Lord Shiva and hence possesses a spiritual significance. Temples and markets are the prime attractions of this town. Tourist who are seeking for nature and trekking this place would be the best place for adventure. They can enjoy the fun of trekking, mountaineering, camping and sightseeing. Apart from this, one can also explore the rustic and peaceful life of Bageshwar.

  • The Bagnath Temple, Bageshwar: The Bagnath temple is the main tourist attraction in Bageshwar. It is a must visiting tourist place. This temple is dedicated to Bageshwar or Vyaghreshwar, the Tiger Lord, who is considered as an avatar of Lord Shiva. This temple was constructed by then Kumaon King Laxmi Chand in 1450CE. It houses a cluster of temples including Bhairav temple, Hanuman Temple, Dattatray Maharaj, Ganga Mai Temple, Kalika Temple, Durga Temple and Vaneshwara temple.
  • Kanda, Bageshwar: Kanda is located at a distance of 23kn from Bageshwar. It is popular for its sightseeing activities. One can also enjoy trekking, mountaineering, camping and river rafting at this place as place is hilly and full of meadows. There is a famous temple named Bhadrakali temple which is located nearby.
  • Chandrika Temple, Bageshwar: Chandrika Temple is another religious place in Bageshwar. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga. Chandrika Devi is considered to be the incarnation of Goddess Durga who is also known as ‘Shakti’ or power.
