Bhilai is an industrial town located in district of Durg, Chhattisgarh. The city is known for Bhilai Steel Plant, which was established in 1967 with help of Soviet Union. It became India's first and main producer of steel rails, as well as a major producer of wide steel plates and other steel products. There isn’t much known about the history of Bhilai, except for the fact the area was inhibited by Bhil tribes after whom the city is named. The earliest historical reference goes back to 12th Century when it came under Haihaivanshi Rajput clan, followed by Maratha Empire. Some places to visit in and around Bhilai are Maitri Bagh, Tandula Dam, Pasharwanath Tirth and Karkabhat - Megalithic Site.
