Bhilai is an industrial town located in district of Durg, Chhattisgarh. The city is known for Bhilai Steel Plant, which was established in 1967 with help of Soviet Union. It became India's first and main producer of steel rails, as well as a major producer of wide steel plates and other steel products. There isn’t much known about the history of Bhilai, except for the fact the area was inhibited by Bhil tribes after whom the city is named. The earliest historical reference goes back to 12th Century when it came under Haihaivanshi Rajput clan, followed by Maratha Empire. Some places to visit in and around Bhilai are Maitri Bagh, Tandula Dam, Pasharwanath Tirth and Karkabhat - Megalithic Site.

Main Attractions
  • Civic Center, Bhilai: The center is the shopping hub of Bhilai, featuring a number of social amusements. It built with two lines of stores and shops fashioned in an L pattern and this shopping center has undergone a number of changes with the passage of time, and also featured a children’s garden equipped with a toy train.
  • Maitri Bagh Zoo, Bhilai: It is a Park as well as Zoo, and was developed by the Bhilai Steel Plant just besides two manmade water bodies. The Bhilai water works is located quite close to maître Bagh providing clear water to the township.
  • Bhilai Steel Plant, Bhilai: The plant was established by the assistant of Soviet Union in the year 1959, which is counted as a major step of India towards industrialization.
  • Narpura, Bhilai: It is located at about 2kms from Bhilai and attracts a number of visitors to its Jain Temples and Pasharvanath Tirth.
