The Tibetan colony was established in 1966 after influx of Tibetans Buddhist who fled Tibet’s annexation of China. Bir is located on the foothills of Dhauladhar Range at an elevation of about 1600 meters. Bit is paradise for Paragliding and attracts a lot of tourists throughout the country and abroad. Sherab Ling Monastery and Chokling monastery are very popular attraction in Bir. Also due to its beauty Bir is known for Nature Walk. Some other area of interest is Bir Tea Factory, Deer Park Institute, Dharmalaya Institute and the Bir Road, which hosts a sizeable market.
