Bir is a small hamlet located in Jogindar Valley Nagar of Himanchal Pradesh. The village is known for Buddhist Monasteries and Stupa. It is also known for settlement of Tibetan refugees and is a noted center of ecotourism and meditation. The Tibetan colony was established in 1966 after influx of Tibetans Buddhist who fled Tibet’s annexation of China. Bir is located on the foothills of Dhauladhar Range at an elevation of about 1600 meters. Bit is paradise for Paragliding and attracts a lot of tourists throughout the country and abroad. Sherab Ling Monastery and Chokling monastery are very popular attraction in Bir. Also due to its beauty Bir is known for Nature Walk. Some other area of interest is Bir Tea Factory, Deer Park Institute, Dharmalaya Institute and the Bir Road, which hosts a sizeable market. 

Main Attractions
  • Chokling Monastery: It is one of the major attraction of Bir, Chokling Monastery was established by Neten Chokling Pema Gyurme in in the 1960. It is known as the home of reincarnation- Neten Chokling Rinpoche and has a huge stupa and a statue of Padmasambhava. It preserves its old practice lineage, including the various annual drupchens.
  • Palpung Sherab Ling Monastery: It is a Karma Kagyü Tibetan Buddhist Monastery located in Bhattu in Bir. Palpung Sherab Ling Monastery is the monastic seat of Kenting Tai Situ Rinpoche of the Karma Kagyu lineage. It offers the regular courses in Buddhist meditation and philosophy.
  • Dharmalaya Institute: Located on a hill with offers splendid views of Bir valley, Dharmalaya Institute is one of the renowned Institutes of this region. The Institute offers several of environmental courses such as sustainable village development, organic farming etc. Apart from environment, Dharmalaya Institute organize recreational activities such as meditation and yoga.
  • Bir Road: Bir Road is one of the most vibrant place of the town, which is the most popular shopping hub of Bir town. Here you will find the lots of authentic local handicraft items.
  • Bir Tea Factory: Bir Tea Factory is one of the most popular tourist attraction of the town, situated near the Bir Bazaar. It is must visit attraction of Bir which offers the beautiful tea gardens and plantations spread around the town. It also offers the tour inside the factory, here you will get an opportunity to see the tea manufacturing process.
  • Paragliding: Bir is most popular for its adventure activities, mainly Paragliding. The town alos hosts the Paragliding pre world cup during the month of October. There are various training programs and certification courses are available here. It attracts a number of tourists across the world. The ideal time to enjoy this trilling adventure sports are from March to May and October to November.
  • Deer Park Institute: Situated on the former campus of the Dzongsar Institute, Deer Park Institute is renowned Institute of Himachal Pradesh. The Institute offers the regular courses and workshops to explore the classical Indian wisdom traditions and understand the various aspects of Buddhism. Most of these programs are free of cost and the mode of teaching is in English. It also offers the accommodation facility as well.
