Chhindwara a municipal town, sandwiched between the cities of Nagpur [Maharashtra] and Jabalpur [Madhya Pradesh] can be counted among some of the larger towns in Satpura Range. The town derives its name from date palm trees [locally called chhind], which are abundant in Chhindwara or perhaps the population of lions or ‘sinh’ [in Hindi] which were too many in past. Chhindwara is home to one to India’s or rather world’s largest tribal community, the Gond tribe with a population of 12.7 million, though they are spread in other areas and states also. The town an urban agglomeration is a most rapidly growing city and home to major industrial houses like Raymond’s, Hindustan Unilever, Tech Packs and Western Coalfields Limited. 

Main Attractions
  • Simariya Kalan: Simariya Kalan is a small village in Chhindwada famous for a giant 101 feet tall statute dedicated Hindu deity Hanuman.
  • Patalkot:  Patalkot or route to Patal [underworld] is a horse shape valley in Tamia block of the district. The beautiful valley is endowed with the best by Mother Nature, heavy verdant forests, a river flowing placidly between the Valleys through the woods, and above all legends allied to the abysmal depth of the valley which says it the same route through which demon prince Meghnath went to patal after worshiping Lord Shiva. The jungles of this valley are so impenetrable that the life on the other side of the valley was lost in obscurity and the tribes were totally cut off with the rest of the world till a few years ago.  
  • Tribal Museum: Shri Badal Bhoi Tribal Museum was started after independence in 1954 with the aim of promoting anthropological, social, economic and cultural studies. The museum showcases the lives and cultures of approximately 45 indigenous tribes of Madhya Pradesh. The museum consists of 14 rooms, 3 galleries and two open air galleries. Among other things at display are clothes, ornaments, agricultural tools, musical idols of deities worshipped by tribals.
  • Anhoni: From centuries people in India and perhaps the world over has believed in the curative powers of the natural hot water springs around the globe some more than the others. Anhoni Sulphur spring in the Anhoni village in one such natural wonder known for its therapeutic effect on skin, for the very reason it is flocked by the tourists all along the year. People come from distances to witness its effects and being cured from various skin ailments.
