Darbhanga is one of the major city of Bihar. The city is located at the distance of around 50km from Nepal. It is one of the most historical city of this region, which is among the oldest cities of Bihar. It believed that the city was associated to the Ramayana and Mahabharata periods. It was renowned for the Royal family of Darbhanga, who were the one of the richest landowners of India during British Empire. The city is considered as the cultural capital of Bihar, which is the home of rich musical, folk-art and literary traditions continuing from centuries. 

Main Attractions
  • Shyama Kali Temple, Darbhanga: The temple was built in the year 1933, and also known as Shyama Mai. It is believed as the temple has been built in the funeral ashes of maharaja of Darbhanga, it is also said that the temple was made up of water of 7 rivers.
  • Ahilya Asthan, Darbhanga: It stands in a village called Ahiya Gram; it is situated at the time of Ramayana, and is dedicated to Gautam Rishi’s Wife Ahilya. It is said that Gautam Rishi has cursed his wife Ahilya to turn in a stone, but when Lord Rama’s feet touched the stone on his way to Mithila, she regained her human form.
  • Chandradhari Museum, Darbhanga: It is a best place to collect lots of history about ancient period of the region. It is established in 1957, and is located at eastern bank of Mansarovar Lake. Costly gems and stones are showcased in the natural history section.
  • Kusheshwar Asthan Bird Sanctuary, Darbhanga: It is a perfect tourist spot for all wildlife lovers. It consists of 14 villages that come under Kusheshwar Asthan block in Darbhanga that remain waterlogged most of the times.
  • Darbhanga Fort, Darbhanga: It is a wonderful destination bounded by beautiful mango trees. This imposing heritage monument is a large complex which used to be the residence of Darbhangha Royal family of Zamindars. Successors of royal clan still stay inside the fort.

  • By Air – The nearest Domestic Airport is Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Airport, Patna, roughly three hour drive from Darbhanga. Patna has daily flights to many cities like Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Ranchi, Bhopal, Ahmedabad, Goa and Vishakhapatnam.
  • By Railway – It has its own Railway Station named as Darbhanga Railway Station which is connected to the major cities of Bihar. It is situated on the major New Delhi-Howrah railway line and is linked with the cities like New Delhi, Bangalore, Mysore, Lucknow, Chennai, Puri, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Patna and Gaya.
  • By Road – Darbhanga is well connected and having the regular bus connections from other major cities of the India to Darbhanga.
