Dhamtari is one of the oldest and beautiful town of and district in the state of Chhattisgarh, which was officially formed on 6th July 1998. In 1955, the town was part and major trade Centre in Raipur District of Madhya Pradesh, which became part of the new Chhattisgarh state in 2000. The main river of this town Mahanadi River and its tributaries, hence due to this it became one of the major fertile plains of Chhattisgarh. Dhamtari is located at the distance of bout 65km from Raipur, the state capital. The town is blessed with splendid natural beauty with rich in flora and fauna. It is also renowned for its traditional folk culture. Dhamtari has various tourist attractions such as Gangrel Dam, which is one of the most popular attractions of this town. It is known for amazing sunset. 

Main Attractions
  • Madamsilli Dam, Dhamtari: It is also called as Murrumsilli Dam is an embankment dam on the Sillari Dam, a tributary of Mahanadi River. The dam was built between 1914 and 1923 and is considered as one of the finest architectural marvels of Chattisgarh.
  • Sihava, Dhamtari: It is one of the chief pilgrimage centres of Chhattisgarh which is in proximity to Dhamtari. Surrounded by forests and mountains, this small township is located on the embankment of Mahanadi River.
  • Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuary, Dhamtari: It is located in Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh and is one of the most famous and important wildlife sanctuaries in central India. Named after the Sitanadi River that originates in the middle of the sanctuary, Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuary is known for its lush green flora and rich and unique fauna.

  • By Air – There are no regular flights from other major cities of the country to Dhamtari. Nearest airport is Raipur Airport, about 70kms away from Dhamtari.
  • By Railway – Raipur Railway Station at 70 km is the nearest junction that is well connected to major towns like Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi and Nagpur, etc.
  • By Road – Dhamtari has its own bus station located in the heart of the city. Regular bus services from CSRTC are available to surrounding cities such as Kavardha, Kanker, Raipur and Bilaspur.
