Known as ‘The Oil City’, Digboi is one of the important cities of Assam in Tinsukia District. During late 19th century, the Crude oil that was found here, which is the one of the oldest oil fields in the world. It believed that name of the city got from the phrase “dig-boy-dig”, which was used by the British to tell the laborers that they dug the fields for crude oil.  Apart from Oil Refinery, the city is also known for its traditional textiles and handicraft as well. The wax dolls are most popular here.

Main Attractions
  • Digboi Oil Refinery, Digboi: The refinery was established in 1901, and is run by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited, it is the main tourist attraction of Digboi, public are not allowed into the oil fields, special permission can be sought to visit the oil refineries.
  • Ridge Point, Digboi: This place offers the bird’s eye view of the town, and tourist can also see the snow-capped mountains of the Eastern Himalayas. Tourist should also lookout for a clear sky and great weather to catch a glimpse of the magnificent Himalayas.
  • War Cemetery, Digboi: The Cemetery was built to bury the soldiers who died during Second World War. There are about 200 burial in the Digboi War Cemetery at present and is maintained by the Commonwealth War Grave Commission.
  • Margherita, Digboi: It is a small town in Assam in the Tinsukia district, and known as the Coal Queen of Assam. Here, the Margherita Golf Course is the main tourist attraction while the several tea gardens are must-visit destinations in the town. The town is also a significant producer of plywood products.
  • Digboi Oil Centenary Museum, Digboi: It is a symbol for the fact that the first traces of oil were tracked in Assam. This museum is one of its kinds in India. It gives knowledge about the history of production of oil in Assam and other facts related to oil and natural gas can be obtained at the museum. It also gives information about the modern methods of oil technology.

  • By Railway - Nearest railway head is Dibrugarh. It is connected to Led through the broad gauge. Kamrup Express, Rajdhani Express are some of the important trains connecting the city to other Indian cities.
  • By Road – NH 38 connects Digboi to Dibrugarh, Tinsukia other Indian cities through buses.
