Dras is a town located in Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir which lies in Ladakh region. Often known as Gateway to Ladakh due to National Highway 1D which passes through it is widely used to access Leh. Dras is located at an elevation of 3280 meters and is known to have subarctic climate due to altitude. Summers are short and cool while winter are long and harsh. In fact, Dras is known to be the coldest place in India as once temperature here was recorded to be  -44 degrees Celsius. Dras is known for its beautiful scenery and serene environment. There are many places to visit in Dras some of them being Dras War Memorial, Mushkoh Valley, Laser La and Manman Top etc.

Main Attractions
  • Dras War Memorial: Dras War Memorial is probably one of the most famous war memorials in India and is dedicated to valor of Indian soldiers during Kargil War in 1999. The memorial honors the officers and soldiers who fell during the Kargil War of 1999.The war memorial is located on NH1D about 61 kms from Dras.
  • Mushkoh Valley: Mushkoh valley is located 8 km from Dras and is near Line of Control between India and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. The valley is covered with Glacier and is extremely cold and inhospitable. The Valley also form the western extreme of Ladakh region.
  • Laser La: Laser La is one of the most untouched places in the region. Enclosed with the towering Himalayas; Laser La is known for its milky white water which is produced due to melting of the glacier located in the region.
  • Manman Top: Manman Top is another very popular attraction in Dras. The top is an elevated region which offers bird’s eye view of the Dras region and Line of Control. Manman Top is located only 10 km from Dras and is strategically very important point for Indian Army.
