Located at east of the Seonath River, Durg is one of the major city in Chhattisgarh. It is a major industrial and agricultural center of the state. The city is rich in mineral resources. Durg was earlier a part of 'Dakshina' or 'Southern Kosala'. As per archeological evidences the town was ruled by Ashoka followed by the Marathas and British. Durg has a rich cultural heritage with over 35 tribes inhabiting the district, Durg has a wide variety of cultural activities such as folk dance, music and drama.Durg offers a number of tourist attractions such as Shri Uwassaggaharam Parshwa Tirth, Ganga Maiya Temple, the Chandi Mandir, Deobaloda, Jain Temples of Nagpura, Patan, Prachin and Tandula.

Main Attractions
  • Shri Uwassaggaharam Parshwa Tirth, Durg: - It located at a bank of River Sheonath, it is a Jain Shrine which was created in the year 1995. The main attraction of the shrine is the 30feet tall gate that bears an idol of Parshwanath.
  • Patan, Durg: It is a town that also serves as the Nagar Panchayat of the district of Durg in Chhattisgarh. The town has an elevation of about 280mt above the sea level and its Panoramic beauty will be a visual treat to the visitors.
  • Tandula, Durg: It was built over the junction of Rivers Sukha Nala and Tandula, the Tandula Dam Reservoir is one of the famous attractions of the district of Durg, and located at about 5 km from Balod, the Tandula Dam has an area of 827.2 sq. km.
  • Maitri Bagh: It is one of the major tourist attraction of this region, which is the joint initiative of the Russian and the Indian governments. It was established by the Bhilai Steel Plant and has an artificial lake. Within this artificial lake, an island has been constructed, which has a musical fountain.
  • Balod: Located at the banks of the River Tandula in the district of Durg . Balod known for the Prachin Kila and Sati Chabutra. The famous Tandula and Aadmabaad dams, constructed on the Sukha and Tandula rivers.
