Dwarka is a holy city that is in the state of Gujarat. The name Dwarka is derived from the word 'Dvar' that means Door. It means the gateway to heaven. It is the legendary city and the seven most ancient religious cities of India. Dwarka was the kingdom of Lord Krishna considered both as one of the “char dham” and “sapta puris”. It is also an important center for Hindu pilgrimage center. Dwarka city is announced as Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) initiative by the Indian Government. There are numerous holy temples in and around Dwarka and Bet Dwarka that attracts tourists every year. Lord Krishna, who was the most significant character in the Hindu epic of Mahabharata, spent his significant part of his life. It is believed that after his death a massive flood was occurred and the whole kingdom submerged under the sea. 

Main Attractions
  • Dwarkadhish Temple, Dwarka: This temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna who is worshipped as the ‘King of Dwarka’ that is situated on Gomti creek. It is also known as Jagat Mandir. Janmashtami is the main festival that is celebrated in this temple. It is amazing and brings the feeling of divine. It is a must visiting tourist place and also for the Lord Krishna’s devotee.
  • Dwarka Lighthouse: During the early 19th century, Dwarka Lighthouse was constructed at Rupen Creek. An eighteen meters tall square tower was constructed in the year 1866. Now in the present the tower measures around 43 meters in height and was constructed between the year 1960 and 1962. This lighthouse was inaugurated in the year 1962. This is the best tourists place open in the evening time to see the panoramic views of sunsets.
  • Nageshwar Shiva Temple: As mentioned in the Shiva Purana, this temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines located on the route between Gomti Dwarka and the Bet Dwarka Island on the coast of Saurashtra in Gujarat. It is considered as an auspicious and holy place for all devotees and symbolizes protection from all poisons. This temple was believed to be known as 'Darukavana', which is an ancient epic name of a forest in India.
  • Gomti Sangam Ghat: It is one of the major attractions of Dwarka that is located near the Dwarkadish temple.  This ghat is considered as holy place where one can feel good and peace. The ghat can be reached from the Swarga Dwar of the Dwarkadhish Temple by climbing down 56 steps. This is the ghat where the river meets the ocean is known as the Gomati Sangam.
  • Rukshamanee Mandir: This temple is solely dedicated to Devi Rukmini, who was the wife of Lord Krishna. The paintings on the walls of the temple are from the 12th century. Thepaintings depicts the story of Lord Krishna and Rukmini. The main deity of the temple is a marble deity of Devi Rukmani, with four hands or 'Chaturbhuja'. It symbolizes Rukmini as the reincarnation of Goddess Maha Lakshmi.
