Golghat is a district located in the north-eastern state of Assam; with a total population of about 1 million it is one of the oldest existing former subdivision which was formed in pre-independence India. District of Golaghat is forms the border of the state beyond which there is Nagaland in the south. Golaghat is crisscrossed by four major rivers, including the Brahmaputra. Historically as the name suggest Golaghat has been a trading hub since old times, the markets here were established by Marwaris who came in from Rajasthan. The prime commodities that are sold in Golaghat are tea, sugarcane, rice, and mustard. Like other places in Assam, Golaghat also produces tea and has over 60 large tea gardens in its helm. The tea gardens of Golaghat have greatly contributed to the economy of the place.

Main Attractions
  • Kaziranga National Park, Golaghat: It is a World Heritage Site and is very popular for being the home of two-third of the world’s population of one-horned Rhinoceroses. Plus, it has a great density of tigers and was declared as Tiger Reserve in the year, 2006. The Park is located on the border of Eastern Himalayas housing a diversified animal and plant life. In fact, the park has four rivers crisscrossing through it, including the Brahmaputra.
  • Neghereting Shiva Mandir, Golaghat: It is about 2kms from Golaghat Town, and perched on a hill top, it is an ancient Shiva temple built by Ahom kings. It is surrounded by lush green tea gardens and is a popular picnic spot.
  • Uncle Robin's Children Museum, Golaghat: The museum is located on the main road in Golaghat town and within the residence of Dr Robin Banerjee, a naturalist of International repute. The museum is full of dolls, artifacts, mementos, movies and other personal collections of Dr Banerjee's lifetime.
  • Golaghat Baptist Church, Golaghat: It is one of the oldest and biggest Baptist Churches in Assam, which celebrated its Centenary Jubilee in 1999, came into being in December 1898.
