Hanumangarh is situated on the banks of the river Ghaggar on the northern part of Rajasthan state in western India, and about 400 km from Delhi. It is the administrative seat of Hanumangarh District. This city is also known as Bhatner (alternatively spelled Bhatnair) because it was founded by king Bhupat in 255 AD. It remained in the control of the Rajputs of Bhati clan and later occupied by Maharaja Sooraj Singh of Bikaner. It is surrounded by Punjab state on the north, Haryana state on the East, and Churu District in South of Rajasthan state, and on the west by Ganganagar District of Rajasthan. The major work of the district is farming; major crops include rice, millet, cotton, sonamukhi (senna), wheat, and vegetables. It has been the food basket of Rajasthan along with Shri Ganga Nagar, and with best agricultural land.
