Hassan is also known as ‘The City of Hoysala Heritage’. During 11th to 13th century, Hassan was under the control of great Hoysala Empire. The city got its name after Goddess Hassanamba mean 'Smiling mother', one of the presiding deities at the Hasanamba Temple. The great temples of Belur and Halebid were constructed during this time.  It was constructed sometime around the 12th century. It is located in the south Indian state of Karnataka.  Hassan is the best and ideal place to explore the historical sites of Belur, Halebid, and Shravanbelgola. It is a city famous for its ancient structures and monuments. This place was influenced by Jainism and later it became a well-known center of Jain literature. Hassan is well known for its historical values. With an enormous amount of sightseeing options, Hassan has gained a lot of attention and popularity where one can find many tourists come here throughout the year. Some of the best tourist attraction places in Hassan are - Shravanabelagola, Bisle Ghat or Bisle Reserve forest, District Museum, Belur, Gorur Dam and many more.

Main Attractions
  • Ramanathpur Temple: It is a village in Arkalgud Taluk in Hassan District of Karnataka. It is one of the most prominent pilgrimage center situated on the left bank of river Cauvery. It is believed as holy place and hence called as "DAKSHINA KAASHI". The important temples of Ramanathapura are Prasanna Sri Subramanya Temple, Sri Rameshwara Temple, Sri Agasteshwara temple, Sri Pattabhi Rama Temple, etc. Thousands of devotees visit this temple every day.
  • Gorur Dam: Gorur Dam is a popular place to visit in Hassan. The Narasinhaswamy teple in Gorur is worth visiting. This Dam is constructed across the river Hemavathy, an important tributary of the river Kaveri. Its better you carry some eatables to the dam if you are visiting to this place. Tourist can witness a beautiful view in a great place.
  • Shettyhalli Church, Hassan: This is a ruined church built in 1860s by the French missionaries in India. It is a magnificent structure of Gothic Architecture. The church submerges in water every year during monsoon season. It offers glamour all the year round. Apart from its idyllic setting, this place is fantastic for birding too.
  • Koravangala, Hassan: This place is famous for 3 Shiva temples built in Hoysala style during the 12th century. The temples mukha mantap has 18 exclusively carved pillars. There is a Surya shrine with a 6 feet high Sun god idol, in front of the sanctum there is a nandi (bull). There is a lot of ornamentation on its outer walls. There is also a Bhairava shrine and 2 dilapidated temples of Govindeshwara and Nageshwara.
