Itanagar is a beautiful place situated on the foothills of Himalayas where you can find maximum of tribal culture. Itanagar is the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. This place is towards the north-eastern part of India. It is an inhabitant of mixed tribes namely Adi, Nyishi, Apatani, and others. This place is dotted as main attractions for archeological sites of great historical value in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. This amazing city is surrounded with spectacular blue hills and dense forest which are the gifts from nature. Nearest state is Assam and hub center for all tourist destinations of North-Eastern states. 

Main Attractions
  • Itafort, Itanagar: It is one of the famous forts in the capital city of Itanagar. It is mainly made up of brick which have been identified by some scholars with Mayapur king of Ramachandra, of the Jitari Dynasty.
  • Buddhist Monastery, Itanagar: It is a Buddhist temple and one of the largest Buddhist temples in India. This temple is frequently visited by most of the tourist belonging to Buddha religions or Hinduism.
  • Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Museum, Itanagar: The museum has a rich collection of textiles, weaponry, household articles and handicrafts that reflect the tribal culture and heritage of Arunachal Pradesh. The museum also runs a workshop for traditional cane products at its Handicrafts Centre.
  • Ganga Lake, Itanagar: It is a beautiful lake and famous for picnic spot which is surrounded by landmass of hard rock. This lake is known as Gekar Sinyi which means ‘confined water’.
  • Indira Gandhi Park, Itanagar: It is always green and has a stream flowing through it. Family with their children can come here to spend some time together.

  • By Air- Itanagar does not have major airport. But closest Airport is Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is at Guwahati, Assam which is a major airport to reach Itanagar. There are other nearby airports at Tezpur, Jorhat. There are helicopter services Between Guwahati to Naharlagun (Itanagar).
  • By Railway - Naharlagun Railway Station is the Railway Station in the city which relates to Guwahati Railway Station. Guwahati Railway Station is well connected with other major cities of India.
  • By Road – Itanagar is well-connected with National Highways from Assam to Itanagar and other major places in Arunachal Pradesh and other parts of India.
