Jodhpur is the 10th largest metropolitan city in the state of Rajasthan. Formerly, it was a princely state and Marwar was the capital of the kingdom. In the year 1459, Jodhpur was founded by Rao Jodha and the city earned its name after him. As Jodhpur enjoys the bright and sunny weather throughout the year, it is also named as the ‘Sun City’. Well-known for ancient forts, palaces, temples and several gates Jodhpur has become of the most tourist visiting place in Rajasthan. The construction of this palace was started in the year 1929 and completed in 1943. This palace serves as a residence to former royal family which is now converted into Taj Palace hotel and museum.   • Jaswant Thada, Jodhpur: This tourist attraction is close to the Mehrangarh Fort. This Jaswant Thada was built in the memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh, the second in 1899.
