Joshimath is a popular hill station and the gateway to Badrinath Temple and Hem Kund. It is a famous pilgrimage tourist destination in the state of Uttarakhand. Located in the Chamoli District of Garhwal, it is also known as Jyotir Math.  It is one of the most sacred places by Hindus. Literally, Joshimath means the place of Jyotirlinga of Shiva. It is said that Adi Guru Sri Shankaracharya founded ‘Jyotir Math’ here. It is one of the four maths established by the Adi Guru Sri Shankaracharya in the 8th century. This is the place from where you can reach to one of the UNESCO site named Valley of Flowers National Park. There are many temples and other religious sites dedicated to Hanuman, Gaurishankar, Ganesha, and Naudevi and Surya. It offers splendors of scenic of Hathi Parvat and other Himalayan Peaks. It is the base for the trekking expedition. July to August are the plesant season to visit Joshimath. It attracts adventure travelers throughout the year. Several trekkers and pilgrims visit this place which is a famous center of Sikh pilgrimage. Narsimha Temple is the main attraction of Joshimath.

  • Narsimha Temple, Joshimath: Narsimha Temple is the main tourist attractions of Joshimath. This temple is dedicated to Narshimsha, who was the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Narasimha made from the Shaligram stone, in the 8th century during the reign of king Lalitaditya Yukta Pida of Kashmir is the main deity. The temple also has an image of Badrinath and brass idols of Lord Rama and Sita.
  • Vasudeva Temple, Joshimath: Vasudeva Temple is situated nearby the temple Narsimha which is one of the most sacred temples in northern India. It was considered very sacred by the ‘Alavars’, the Tamil Vaishnavi Saints. This temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams, recognized by the Tamil Nadu Vaishnava saints as being very important Vishnu temples.
  • Tapovan, Joshimath: Tapovan is a popular tourist spot well known for the natural hot springs. It is also a gateway to many other popular tourist destinations such as Badrinath and Valley of Flowers. The scenic beauty of the landscape adds extra to the destination. It also offers a fantastic view of river Dhauliganga.
  • Nanda Devi National Park, Joshimath: Nanda Devi National Park is situated at around 24km from Joshimath. This park was established in 1980 and declared as a National Park in 1982. And in 1988, it was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is second highest peak in India.
