Kailashahar is an ancient Tripuri Kingdom lies to the southern part of the state Tripura. From the 7th Century AD., this historic city has been witnessing generations. It has a rich legacy and was once capital of Tripuran kingdom where evidence can be still seen here. The name of this town, Kailashahar came from the words Kailash (home of Lord Shiva) and ‘Har’ (another name of Lord Shiva). Literally it means Home of Lord Shiva. There is an interesting folklore after the name of this serene place. Originally, it was named as Chhambulnagar. The King Jujhar Fa, who was the disciple of Lord Shiva prayed to Mahadev on the banks of the River Mau in Chhambulnagar. Chhambulnagar which is now known as Kailashahar. Unakoti which is a major tourist attraction of Tripura known for its unique stone and rock images has a strong connection with Kailashahar. Other attractions are - Rangauti, 14 Deities Temple and more. This place is best for Temple tour. Apart from this, there are many tea gardens where you can feel the true relaxation. 

Main Attractions
  • Lakhi Narayan Bari/Temple: This temple is a major tourist attraction in the state Tripura. This is a Hindu temple and is about 45 years old. This temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna. The idol was installed by Krishnananda Sevayet. This antique temple was built by Birendra Kishore Manikya, who was the king of Tripura.  
  • Fourteen Goddess Temple, Kailashahar: Fourteen Goddess Temple is also known as the Chaturdasha Temple. This temple was built by King Krishna Manikya Debbarma of Tripura in 1761. It was built in honour of fourteen deities, together called the Chaturdasha Devata. It is one of the most interesting temple that attracts a lot of tourist from all over India.
  • Unakoti, Kailashahar: Unakoti is one of the most important Buddhist Pilgrimage place. It is regarded as a prime tourist place in Tripura. This place can be explored in one day excursion tour only by hiring private vehicles. The Rock-cut carvings of Buddha idols, Shiva, Hanuman and other several unidentified deties depicts the tales of lost civilization. ‘Ashokastami Mela’ is an important fair held in the month of April where thousands of devotees come here for worshipping. Devotees can also take a dip in the Sita Kunda.
  • Tea Estates, Kailashahar: Tour to Kailashahar is incomplete without sipping tea from the cool tea gardens of Tripura. The tea leaves grown here are mostly organic. These plantations date back to 1916. Most of tourist are attracted by the tea gardens of Kailashahar.

  • By Air – Agartala Airport is the major airport to reach Kailashahar which is well connected with Kailashahar Airport and Guwahati Airport, one of the major International Airport. Airport is well-connected with other major cities of India.
  • By Railway – Kumar Ghat Railway Station is the nearest railway station to reach Udaipur which is connected with other station of Tripura. Guwahati Railway station is the major station from where trains are well- connected to other parts of Northeast region of India.
  • By Road – Kailashahar is well linked by State transport buses from all parts of Tripura.
