Kanker is one of the most beautiful town and district of Chhattisgarh. It was the part of Bastar district and in 1998 it became an independent district. Kanker is situated between the two renowned cities of Chhattisgarh, Raipur, which is the capital of Chhattisgarh and another is Jagdalpur the district in Bastar district. The city has five major rivers which flowing through the district such as Doodh River, Hatkul River, Mahanadi River, Turu and Sondur River. The city is surrounded by small hilly and lush green forest areas. The history of the Kanker is very rich, which was dated back to pre-historic period. It believed that the city was linked with Mahabharata and Ramayana, the great epics of India. The district offers the numerous tourist attractions such as Kanker Palace, Gadiya Mountain, Malanjhkudum Waterfall, Charre-Marre Waterfalls and Maa Shivani Temple.

Main Attractions
  • Gadiya Mountain, Kanker: These are the highest mountains of Kanker. It is a natural fort and was once declared as the capital by King Dharma Dev of the Kandra dynasty. There is a water tank situated on the hill top which never dries up. The Doodh River flows down the mountains.
  • Kanker Palace, Kanker: The Palace belongs to the royal family of the 12th Century. It was the residence of late Maharajadhiraj Uday Pratap Deo. A few sections of the palace are now converted into a hotel.
  • Maa Shivani Temple, Kanker: The Temple is located near the city of Kanker. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Maa Shivani. It is believed that the goddess is a combination of both Goddess Durga and Kali.

  • By Railway – Raipur Railway Station (127 km) is the nearest railway station to reach Kanker, which is one of the main stations in the state.
  • By Road – Kanker is well connected to all parts of nearby cities and villages by bus. Private and Govt. owned CSRTC bus services are available on a regular basis to and from.
