Karimnagar is a popular district remarkable for ancient history that began in the Old Stone Age around 1,48,000 BC. It is marked with spirit and grandeur that form an important part from history in the state of Telangana. The name of this historic place was named by an Elgandal Qiladar, Syed Karimuddin for a village during the Nizam era. Originally, Karimnagar is called as Kareem Nagar. Formerly, this city was known as Sabbinadu dating to the Kakatiya dynasty. It is said that during this dynasty, kings Prola II and Prataparudra found evidence of the area’s rich history. Karimnagar was being ruled by many great rulers such as Satavahana, Rashtrakuta, Chalukya and Kakatiya. It was one of the regional capitals during the rule of the Nizams. This is a city that has got the flagship of Smart Cities Mission. This major city is also well known for business center and widely known for Granite and Agro-based industries. Previously it was a part of Andhra Pradesh before 1956, Newly in 2014, it became the part of Telangana by Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014. There are many historical monuments and forts to visit by the tourist. Some major attractions are – Elagandal Fort, Manthani Temples, Jagtial Fort, Ramagiri Fort, Ujwal Park, Rajiv Deer Park and others.

Main Attractions
  • Elgandal Fort, Karimnagar: Elgandal Fort is located amidst palm groves situated on the banks of the Manair River (a tributary of the Godavari River). It is a historical place which is also called as Teen Minar which stands for Three Towers. There is a tank outside the eastern gateway of the fort built by Zafar-Ud-Doula in 1754 A.D.
  • Manthani Temples, Karimnagar: Manthani Temples has a glorious history. It is famous for Vedic Ghanapathis. The word Manthani has been derived from Mantra-Manthana. Elders of this region believe that the word means a pot of buttermilk. Gauthameswar Lord Shiva is the main deity of this temple. This temple is one of the ancient centers of Vedic or also said that it was a great seat of Vedic learning from the times immemorial.  Manthani Temple is the prime attractions of this city Karimnagar.
  • Ujwala Park, Karimnagar: Ujjwala Park in Karimnagar is a theme park. It was established in 2001 that attracts most of the tourists of Karimnagar and outside the city. This park is well designed and having a beautiful landscaping besides its maintained lawns, plants, floral, trees. It enthrals every visitor with funhouses like coaster ride, baby train, bumping cars etc.
  • Sri Raja Rajeshwara, Karimnagar: Sri Raja Rajeshwara in Karimnagar is one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in Telangana located on the banks of Mulavagu stream in Vemulawada.  It is famous for the temple of Rajarajeshwara Swamy, which is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva built by one of the governors of Kalyani Chalukyas. The remains of the temples and sculptures show the great architecture of Chalukyas.
