Kullu is a town located in Himanchal Pradesh lying in the valley carved out by Beas River. The town is known for its dense and beautiful forests of pine and deodar, temples, hills and apple orchids. The region lies in between Pir Panjal and greater Himalayas. Kullu finds references in ancient Hindu texts of Ramayana and Mahabharata. The region was once a janapada during Vedic period. Kull is well connected by road with major cities. Kullu has many pilgrimage sites and hence sometimes referred as valley of gods. Some famous temples to visit in Kullu are, Raghunath Temple, Rishi Temple, Bijli mahadev temple, Baheshwar Mahadev and Hidimba temple. Some other places in around Kullu are Raison, Shoja, Kasol, Naggar etc. Kullu Dussehra and Kullu Holi are two very famous festivals celebrated in Kullu. Kullu remains cold during winters and temperature drops as low as -5 degrees Celsius. Summer temperature varies from 24-34 degree Celsius. 

Main Attractions
  • Pandoh Dam: Established on the Beas River in Mandi district, Pandoh Dam is one of the major attraction of this region. Pandoh Dam was completed in 1977, under the Beas Project. It major purpose is hydroelectric power generation. This amazing Dam is full of water birds and lust greenish water. No one can go-near the water body and it is the ideal place for Photography.
  • The Great Himalayan National Park: The Great Himalayan National Park is one of the most exotic wildlife sanctuary which is located in Kullu region in Himachal Pradesh.  Situated on the foothill of western part of the Himalayan Mountains. The National Park is spread over an area of 1,171. The Great Himalayan National Park was established in 1984. It was also declared as UNESCO world Heritage site.
  • Bijli Mahadev Temple: Situated at an elevation of 2,450 m above sea level, Bijli Mahadev Temple is most popular temple of the region. The temple is devoted to Lord Shiva. It is also called as ‘Temple of Lightening’. It offers the splendid view of the entire kullu valley.
  • Raghunath Temple: Raghunath Temple is one of the oldest temple of Kullu valley, which was built in 17th century by Rajah Jagat Singh. The temple is dedicated to Lord Rama.
  • Sultanpur Palace: Also known as known as Rupi Palace, Sultanpur Palace is one of the major attraction Kullu. It is newly built palace in the vicinity of the old palace which was damaged in an earthquake. It is the beautiful blend of Pahari and colonial styles. It it is the private residence of the erstwhile Royal family, hence resident’s permission required to visit the same.
  • Sharvali Devi Temple: It is an oldest temple in this region, which is located at Shooru Village. It is believed that the temple was built by the Pandavas, the mythical brothers from the epic Mahabharata.
  • Basheshwar Mahadev Temple: Located at the 15 km away from the town, Basheshwar Mahadev temple is situated on the banks of River Beas in Bajura. It is an ancient and largest shrine in Kullu. The temple is devoted to Lord Shiva. It is dates to the 9th century, which is renowned for its for exquisite stone carvings, flat shikharas and sculptures.

  • By Train- The nearest major railway Station is Kalka, which is located at the distance of about 242kms from Kullu. The Kalka railway station is well connected with all major cities of India.  Another small railway station is Shimla, which is located at 209kms from Kullu. Shimla is connected through toy train from Kalka.
  • By Road- Kullu is well connected with all major cities of India by road.
