Kushinagar is a quite interesting tourist destination nestled in the heart of Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the ancient towns famous for its beautiful Stupas and temples. It is an esteemed pilgrimage center of the Buddhists. Today, Kushinagar is listed as top Buddhist pilgrimage sites in India. The district of Kushinagar is named after the sacred death-place of Lord Buddha. It is among the five Buddhist pilgrimages associated with Lord Buddha’s life. In ancient time, Kuchinagarwas called as Kushavati. It was named after the city of Kusha, son of Lord Ram. It belongs to the Great Lord Buddha, founder of Buddhism, who delivered his last sermon, attained “Mahaparinirvana”. The town is popular as it is the last resting place of Lord Buddha. Ashoka built a stupa and pilgrimage site to mark Buddha's parinirvana in Kushinagar. It is also associated with Lord Mahavir, 24th tirthankar of Jain Sect, founder of Jainism. Once a part of this flourishing town belonged to the Malla kingdom. The significance of this region is also due to being ‘Link – route’ of ancient highways. There were around ten monasteries at this place. Japanese Temple is one of the must visit destinations in Kushinagar. Tourist must visit this place at least once in their lifetime.

  • Japanese Temple, Kushinagar: It is one of the major tourist attraction in Kushinagar.It is a beautiful Ashta Dhatu (eight metals) statue of Lord Buddha. This statue came from Japan. It was built by the AtagoIsshin World Buddhist Cultural Association.
  • Wat Thai Temple, Kushinagar: This Buddhist temple can be seen with wide open eyes in Kushinagar. It is one of the important sacred destinations of the Buddhist followers. It is a must visited destinations in Kushinagar. The temples have a Buddhist decor. It was built to commemorate the golden jubilee celebrations of King Bhumibol's accession to the throne of Thailand.
  • Ramabhar Stupa, Kushinagar: It marks the site where the Lord Buddha was cremated. The stupa rises to a height of 49 ft. Pilgrims can often be seen meditating by the palm-lined path that leads around the structure.
  • Buddhist Museum, Kushinagar: Kushinagar is famous for Lord Buddha.It reveals a lot more about the art, culture and historical facts during Lord Buddha's period.The museum is simply the perfect destination for the history and art lovers. Some important collectibles are the statues, carved panels to other artefacts excavated from the various Stupas and monasteries. It is one of the ideal destinations for the tourists.
