Lakhisarai is one of the major town of Bihar, which is located at 50 km west of the town of Munger. Earlier, it was the part of the Munger District and in 1994 was separated. The town is known for its small scale industries like rice mills, sindur, drugs, iron rods and insecticide factories. The town lies on the banks of the Ganga, Harohar and Kiul rivers, which flow through the district. The history of Lakhsarai is very rich, the town was the capital of Pal dynasty. The Chinese traveler Huen Tsang narrated this place as it was the home of 10 Buddhist monasteries and four hundred Buddhist residents. Apart from this, Lakhisarai was also one of the most significant destination for Hindus as well as ten ancient Hindu temples were also found here.

Main Attractions
  • Abhinath Asthan, Lakhisarai: It is a mysterious place in the Nongarh, which is situated on the mountains. According to the common belief Abhinath Baba was the disease healer. He supplied antidotes to the people of the Nongarh all through his life.
  • Bhagwati Asthan, Lakhisarai: It has a prominent pilgrimage for the devotees of Maa Bhagwati. The place attracts many tourists because of its spiritual importance as well as its serene location, on the mountain top.
  • Shringi Rishi, Lakhisarai: Shringi Rishi was the renowned saint of the knowledgeable Kashyapa’s ancestry and plays an imperative role in the Indian history. Situated near Laxman Ghat on the bank of the river Sarayu the ashram of the Shringi Rishi is made.
  • Rajauna, Lakhisarai: It was an important place for Buddhists and was home to some Buddha Maths. The city was the capital of Indradaman, the last emperor of Pals. Rajauna has a distinct glorious past as evident by the ruins and evidences found. Rajauna village is known for the unique shivling, which is made of black stone.
