Mahbubnagar is a district formerly known as “Rukmammapet”, “Palamoor” located in the state of Telangana. Officially, it is known as Palamoor. It is bordered by the River Krishna. The name of this district was given after the name of Mir Mahbub Ali Khan, the 6th Nizam of Hyderabad. It is one of the biggest towns in the Mahbubnagar district. This town has a great history closely linked to that of the Telangana district. Once, this region was known as Cholawadi or the land of the Cholas. It is said that the Golconda diamonds and the famous “Kohinoor” diamond came from Mahbubnagar district. The history of this region is very complicated as this region was always neglected by the rulers. It can be understood by the dynasties ruled in this region. The surrounding places witnessed several wars between 14th and 16th centuries. It is a princely region which is also a land of Samsthanas. Mahbubnagar has several tourist attractions like Alampur, Pillalamarri, Jurala Dam, Koilkonda Fort, Gadwal Fort, Kollapur, Somasila, etc. The most interesting place to see is the famous banyan tree called Pillalamrri in Mahbubnagar. It is a beautiful place to visit for the Lovers of Nature.

Pillalamarri, Mahbubnagar: Pillalamarri is a bayan tree which is 800 years old which is a major tourist attraction in Mahbubnagar. There is an interesting fact that it has original main trunk and many prop roots which is spread over three acres of land. In Telugu language, the word “Pillalu” means children & “marri” means a banyan tree.

Pillalamarri Archaeological Musuem, Mahbubnagar: Pillalamarri Archaeological Museum is another popular tourist attraction in Mahbubnagar. It was established in the year 1976. This museum is close to the popular 700-year old Pillalamarri Banyan tree. It is a repository of stone sculptures collected from various places of Mahbubnagar District, dating back from 6thto 16th Century AD. Some artefacts that are preserved includes pre-historic stone tools, coins, pottery etc. It also consists of many historical idols and articles of ancient people.

Mallelatheertham, Mahbubnagar: Mallelatheertham is located in the deep forest area on the Highway from Hyderabad to Srisailam. Mallelatheertham is the natural water fall in Nallamala Forests. It is one of the most beautiful waterfall falls from a height of Approximately 500 feet. This place comes under Nagarjuna Sagar Srisailam Wildlife Sanctuary. It attracts a lot of tourist who can relax and take bath under this waterfall.

Umamaheshwaram, Mahbubnagar: Umamaheshwaram is also known as Maheshwaram and Umamaheshrum. This Hindu temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is in the picturesque Nallamala forest range which is around 100 kms from Hyderabad. This temple is at the top of the hill covered by huge trees. It is mentioned in many Vedas that visit to a Srisailam (one of the 12th Jyotirlinga) without Umamaheswaram is incomplete.

Gadwal-Chennakeshwaralayam, Mahbubnagar: Gadwal-Chennakeshwaralayam is an ancient temple believed to be 300 years old. It is where Lord Venkateshwara was prayed by ancient rulers of Gadwal & still a great carnival is celebrated every year. This place is also known for many temples and monuments.
