Mokokchung is a town located in Mokokchung district of Nagaland state. It is a town that was established between 1880 or 1890. This city is popular for Ao Naga, one of the important tribal groups of Nagaland. They are the descendants from Mongolians who migrated here from Far East through Chungliyimti.  Mokokchung is also known as “The Land of Wanderlust”. It is the cultural capital of the state Nagaland and an important urban hub both economically and politically. This land has many historical importance. After 19th century, Mokokchung was one of the first Naga Hills where Assam rifles established their outposts. A single visit to this place is not enough, there are much more to know and explore. It has some exquisitely emerald mountains surrounding that gives you a picturesque view of the landscape. Mokokchung as a tourist destination offers some scenic sightseeing of the city and from here one can also explore other nearby places such as - Longkhum, Langpangkong, Mopungchukit and Chuchuyimlang and others sure to enhance the tourist's experience visiting to Nagaland. It is one of the best place to discover some undiscovered that can amaze many travelers.

  • Longkhum, Mokokchung: Longkhum is one of the most popular tribal destination in the state of Nagaland. Popularly known for Ao Naga tribe. People believed that tourist visiting this place for the first time left their soul behind and have to return back to get it back. It is a village full of resources making it a best tribal circuit in Nagaland. Tourist can experience some ethnic handlooms and handicrafts by the expert craftsmen are also found in plenty here.
  • Ungma, Mokokchung: Ungma is the second largest Ao village in Nagaland after the Bara Basti of Kohima. This village is located 3km from Mokokchung town and occupies a unique position in the history of Ao tribe whose ancestors were from Mongolians who migrated here from Far East through Chungliyimti. It is believed to be the birthplace of the Ao tribe.
  • Chuchuyimlang, Mokokchung: Chuchuyimlang village is in Chuchuyimlang Tehsil of Mokokchung district in Nagaland. This village is divided into four sectors namely Longzung mopu, Teyong mopu, Impang mopu and Imlang Mopu. The villagers express their friendships by exchanging gifts, sharing a spirit of camaraderie. It is also referred to as “Chuchu Town”.
