Munger is one of the districts in Bihar, located on the banks of river Ganges, it is known for mineral waters and hot water springs. Historically Munger was part of Anga Mahajanpada and was ruled by legendary character of Mahabharata, Karna. It was also once capital of Pala Empire. The distinct feature of Munger are number of hot springs which is highest in state of Bihar. There are about seven hot springs in Munger namely Bharari, Bhimbandth, Hingania, Remeshwar-Lakshmishwar-Bhowrah Kunds, Rishi kund, Sita kund and Sringirishi. Apart from the hot water springs some other places of interest in Munger are Munger Fort, whose history dates back to Slave Dynasty, Tomb of Pir Shah Nufa, Kastaharni Ghat and Bhimbandh Wildlife Sanctuary.

Main Attractions
  • Bihar School of Yoga, Munger: It is a great place to learn life skills and yoga culture, some of the specialized courses offered here are Yogic Sadhana, Yogic Health Management and Yogic Stress Management.
  • Bhimbandh Wildlife Sanctuary, Munger: It is perfect visiting place of nature lovers to explore the hidden gems lurking in the forests of Bihar and spread over an area of 682sq. km. The name derived from the legend Bheema, one of the five Pandava brothers from the epic Mahabharata, it houses variety of animals and birds.
  • Munger Fort, Munger: It located on the banks of river Ganges and built atop a hill. There are many tombs and monuments inside the fort- Palace of Saha Suja, Tomb of Phir Shah, Chandistana temple and an old British cemetery.
  • Shri Krishna Vatika, Munger: There are two tunnels in the Krishna Vatika and efforts have been made in the past to pass through the tunnels but in vain as it proved to be life threatening. The garden also has tombs of Gul and Bahar, wards of Mir Kasim.
  • Kashtaharni Ghat, Munger: It means “the bathing place which expels all pain”, people believe that it is the place where Lord Rama and Godess Sita bathed here while returning to Ayodhya.
  • Chandika Sthan: It is one of the fifty one Shakti Peethas, dedicated to the goddess Shakti. It is located at two kilometers away from the Munger town. Being a Siddhi-Peetha, Chandika Sthan is considered to be one of the most sacred and sanctified temples for Hindus.

  • By Railway – Munger is well connected to major cities of India. The city has two railway stations: Jamalpur Junction and Munger Railway Station. The main rail head for the Munger city is Jamalpur Junction, which is located at around 9 km from Munger city center.
  • By Road – It is well connected to major cities of India by State and national highways. There is various regular Bus service are provided by BSRTC for all the major cities and nearby destination. Buses, Taxi and Auto Rickshaw are available for intra city transport.
