From looking down on the Doon valley to picturesque beauty of the mighty Himalayas, Mussoorie is a pretty hill station located in the state of Uttarakhand. It is situated at an altitude of 6000 ft. The word Mussoorie has been derived from the 'mansoor', a shrub which is indigenous to the area. Popularly, Mussoorie is known as the ‘Queen of Hills’. Mussoorie has an intriguing past which was foundedin 1825by Lt. Frederick Young of East India Company. Mussoorie came into existence under Umer Singh Thapa due to the conquest of the Garhwal and the Dehra in 1803 by the Gorkhas. Being a popular hill station, it is also the gateway to two of the Char Dham, Gangotri and Yamunotri, which are the major Hindu pilgrimage sites in India. Once Mussoorie was said to present a 'fairyland' atmosphere to tourists. Tourism has a great significance. It is a captivating paradise for leisure travelers and honeymooners. It boasts of some of the most spectacular views of the Himalayas. Mussoorie offers a lot of tourist attractions with beautiful waterfalls and sceneries. It has also some lovely and charming old houses and estates. There is a road known as ‘Camel’s Back Road’, got its name from a rocky outcrop in the shape of a camel's hump which is best for nature walk for every voyager.

  • The Mall, Mussoorie: The Mall is a major tourist visiting place in Mussoorie. This place is best for shopper’s delight. Stroll and enjoy the views. Tourist can go for shopping and try out the local delicacies.
  • Lal Tibba, Mussoorie: Lal Tibba is the highest peak in Mussoorie situated at an altitude of over 2,290 meters above sea level. This tourist attraction provides some amazing and never seen before views of the mountains. It is an ideal place to enjoy both sunrise and sunset viewpoints and also for trekking.
  • Jwalaji Temple, Mussoorie: Jwalaji Temple is situated on the top of Benog hills close to Benog Wildlife Sanctuary. This temple is dedicated to Jwala Devi and the idol inside the temple that has an idol of Mata Durga. This temple is surrounded by lush thick forests and offers a panoramic view of the Himalayan peaks.
  • The Kempty Falls, Mussoorie: The Kempty Falls is another major tourist attractions in Mussoorie. This is an oldest waterfall and the most fascinating picnic spot. This milky waterfall was developed by a British officer. It has become a must visiting tourist place. Tourist like to enjoy the refreshing bath under 40ft. Kempty Waterfalls.
  • Happy Valley, Mussoorie: Happy Valley is the centre of the Tibetan settlement in Mussoorie. Visit the Buddhist monastery. Happy Valley is also known as ‘Mini-Tibet’. It is home to about 5000 Tibetan refugees.The Buddhist Temple and Tibetans Homes Foundation only testify the Tibetan struggle, and their beautiful culture.
  • Camel’s Back Road, Mussoorie: Camel’s Back Roadgot its name from a rocky outcrop in the shape of a camel's hump which is best for nature walk for every voyager. Famous for nature, adventure, photography.Tourist can go for trekking, pony rides. It is also good for souvenirs.
  • Gun Hill Mussoorie Lake, Mussoorie: It is a popular view point of Mussoorie. Gun Hill is a historical place and second highest peak in Mussoorie. It is a paradise for photographers. Visitor also like to enjoy ropeway ride to Gun Point. It is a popular picnic spot for locals.
  • Sir George Everest’s House, Mussoorie: This house is of Sir George Everest who was he was baptised in Greenwich. He owned a house in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, India, for about 11 years. It was built in 1832. Now, this house is under Archaeological Survey of India. The house is secured with iron grills all over. The interior of the house is still at good condition.
