Muzzafarpur is a district located in Northern Bihar and is known as commercial and education hub in the region. It is third most populous district of Bihar after Patna and East Champaran. Known for its litchis, it is sometimes referred as The Land of Litchis. Muzaffarpur is named after Muzaffar Khan, an Amil (Revenue Officer) under British Dynasty. Muzzafarpur has mythological links with Ramayana as it was part of Videha once ruled by father of Sita, Janak. Muzzafarpur also played an important role during Indian Independence Movement and was an important political centre. It was also an important political centre during the anti-emergency movement fuelled by Jayprakash Narayan. Being one of largest producers of Litchis Muzzafarpur has many lychee gardens and are often sought by tourists. Some other places of interest in Muzzafarpur are Baba Garibnath Temple, Jubba Sahni Park, and Khudiram Bose Memorial.  

Main Attractions
  • Litchi Garden, Muzaffarpur: It is about 7kms away from the town Muzaffarpur. It being the producer of about 3 lakh tones of Litchi every year, the Litchi Gardens is the most sought after destination for tourists.
  • Baba Garibnath Temple, Muzaffarpur: It is one of the most important attractions of Muzaffarpur, and it is said that the shivling was acquired from the Peepal Tree where the temple is situated now.
  • Jubba Sahni Park, Muzaffarpur It is kind of a Children’s Park. And is also famous for its lush green trees, shubs and cool grass where elders can also visit to view the beautiful surroundings and greenery. The queue of tall lamps across the park light up the area after sunset.
  • Ramchandra Shahi Museum, Muzaffarpur: The museum was constructed in 1979, which shows various artifacts, statues like Manasa Nag, etc. There is also a collection of various ancient utensils along with the intricately created statues that are a major attraction of the museum.
