Nalgonda is a city in Telangana. It is a rich blend of history and modernity. Nalgonda is an ideal place which has stayed in the shadows and hasn’t been given much of a limelight ever. The name Nalgonda has been derived from two Telugu words, nalla means “black” and konda “hill”. Literally it means Black hill. This place has both historic archeological and spiritual significance. Earlier, Nalgonda was called as ‘Neelagiri’ or ‘Nilagiri’ by the Rajput ruler. After the conquest by Bahamani king, it was finally named as Nallagonda. Many evidences in the architectural splendor seen in the forts says that Nalgonda is associated with various dynasties who ruled this region. It is located between two hills which gives traveler a great scope for trekking. The serene atmosphere with spiritualism in the air attracts a lot of tourist from all over India. It is believed that Paleolithic people lived here which has an archaeological evidence of fashioning tools and weapons out of stone. This district shares Nagarjunasagar dam along with Andhra Pradesh, the largest masonry dam in the world. Nalgonda has ample of History that consists of several ancient temples, forts and monuments that defines this city. Deverakonda Fort is one of the brilliance work in stones which has an architectural importance. From the top of this fort tourist can see the beauty of Nalgonda.

  • Deverakonda Fort, Nalgonda: It is one of the most prominent heritage structure and also the important historical sites in Nalgonda. This fort is famous for its architectural brilliance which is surrounded by seven hills. During the Padma Nayaka Velama rulers, Devarakonda flourished with many temples and heritage sites. There is a small lake that provided water source to the residents of the fort. The fort lies in ruins and acts as a major attraction. 
  • Yadagiri Gutta, Nalgonda:  Yadagiri Gutta is also called as Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple situated at a height of 300ft. on the hill top. It is famous for the temple of Narasimha Swamy. The name of this temple was derived from the name of Lord Narasimha and the place was named after a hermit called Yadavarishi. Here, every year the birthday of Lord Narasimha is also celebrated here.
  • Chaya Someshwara Temple – Panagal, Nalgonda: Chaya Someshwara Temple is an interesting pilgrimage and historical site in the state of Telangana. It was built during 11th - 12th centuries by Cholas. It is one of the most amazing temple that came from the word ‘chaya’ that falls on the deity looks like a shadow of one of the pillars carved in front of the sacred chamber. The shadow stays at the same place throughout the day. It is a wonderful place that can be visited by every traveller.
  • Bhongir Fort, Nalgonda:  Bhongir Fort is another important historical place in the state of Telangana. It is also listed as the best tourist destination in India. This fort was constructed on a massive monopolistic rock at imposing height, located at 500 feet altitude. It was built by famous Chalukya ruler Sri Vikramaditya – VI which was structured in the 10th century. The fort is egg shaped and the two gateways for the forts are protected by large sized rocks.
  • Pillala Marri, Nalgonda: Pillala Marri is a Hindu temple which is said to be 1000 years old. This temple belonged to the Kakatiya era. It is also a living example of the architectural greatness of the Kakatiya rulers. The art and architecture both are famous. Beautiful architectures are decorated on the walls of the temple. The main idol Lord Chennakesavaswami is placed in the main sanctum of the temple.
  • Rachakonda Fort, Nalgonda:  Rachakonda Fort is a good example of medieval Hindu fort architecture that is made of large stones. It is situated at a distance of 66km from Nalgonda. This marvellous fort was constructed by Recherla Singama Nayak from Padma Nayaka dynasty during the 14th and 15th century. It is said that this fort was the capital to the Rachakonda region. The fort was built to protect them from attack. In present, it is totally ruined which has become one of the most visiting tourist place in Nalgonda.
  • Sri Jain Mandir, Nalgonda: Sri Jain Mandir is a pilgrimage place for Jainism. There are three main idols of Lord Adinath, Lord Neminath and Lord Mahaveera inside the temple. Other than this, there are 21 other Theerthankaras on both the sides of the main temple. The stone and pillars are made from white marble. This temple was renovated about 20 years back as it was ruined for many years ago.
