Patna is capital of Bihar and one of the largest cities on India ranked 18th in terms of urban agglomeration and 19th in terms of population. It is also one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world with written history dating back to 490 BCE when it was founded by King of Magadh Empire, Ajatashatru. Pataliputra as it was known in ancient time was power centre of India as it was capital of various empires that grew in Norther India starting with Magadh, Haryanka, Nanda, Mauryan, Shunga, Gupta and Pala. It was also center of learning and art. Patna is also considered as a holy city as it is important to all Dharmic faiths including Buddhist, Hindu, Jain and Sikh. Patna has always been a major trade and agricultural hub, and is known for active exports are grain, sugarcane, sesame, and medium-grained Patna rice.  Patna is also a very popular tourist destination as it has assimilated thousands of years of history. Some of the famous place to visit in Patna are Kumhrar and Agam Kuan, which belong to the Ashokan Period, Takht Sri Patna Sahib is one of the Five Takhts of Sikhism and is birthplace of 10th Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh. Padri Ki Haveli, Buddha Smriti Park and Patna Planetarium are some other popular places to visit in Patna.

Main Attractions
  • Birla Mandir, Patna: This Mandir refers to the large number of Hindu temples built by the Birla family, in different cities. All these temples are magnificently built in white marble adding a feat to their marvelous and elaborate architecture. The main deity of the mandir is that of God Lakshmi Narayan.
  • Bulandi Bag, Patna: It is one of the major excavation sites from which many terracotta artefacts, coins and the like have been excavated throwing new light on the life and times of the Mauryan Empire.
  • Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Library, Patna: It was founded in 1900, and has superlative collection of rare Arabic and Persian manuscripts, Rajput and Mughal paintings, and oddities like the Koran extolled in 25 houses many books that can’t be found in any library of the world.
  • Mahavir Mandir, Patna: The temple is one of the holiest temple dedicated to Lord Hanumana. Millions of pilgrims visit the temple to pay their respects and Mahavir Mandiris, the second most visited temple in North India.
  • Patan Devi Mandir, Patna: The temple is considered to be the abode of Goddess Durga. The Bari Patan Devi Temple faces north towards the Ganges river. The statues of the temple are carved out of black stone.
  • Pathar Ki Masjid, Patna: It stands on the bank of river Ganges and is also called Saif Khan's mosque, Chimmi Ghat mosque and Sangi Masjid. It was established by son of Jahangir, Parvez Shah. The structure is built of stone, and thereby known as Pathar Ki Masjid. Pathar Ki Masjid is widely respected by the local Islamic community.
  • Patna Museum, Patna: It is called Jadu Ghar by locals; some of the most prized displays at the museum are the relics of Gautam Buddha, fossil of a 2300 years old tree and the celebrated statue of Didarganj Yakshi. The museum is surely a learning experience by itself and explains the glorious past of Patna.
  • Patna Zoo, Patna: The zoo makes considerable effort to conserve endangered species and has met with considerable success at captive breeding. The zoo took birth as a botanical garden, and thereby contains more than 300 species of trees, herbs and shrubs. The park also includes an aquarium which boasts of 35 species of fish, and the snake house has 32 snakes belonging to 5 species.
  • Patna Planetarium, Patna: It is undoubtedly one of the largest planetariums in Asia. It is a tourist magnet and has regular film shows relating subjects pertaining to astronomy. It also holds exhibitions.
  • Sher Shah Suri Masjid, Patna: It is a mosque and is also known as Shershahi, The mosque is a fine example of the Afghan style of architecture. There exists a tomb inside the complex of the mosque which is sheltered by an octagonal stone slab
  • Agam Kuan, Patna: The word Agam Kuan means the “unfathomable well” has immense historical substance. It is associated with the rule of Mauryan Emperor King Ashoka and is one the oldest archaeological sites in Patna.
  • Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib, Patna: The Gurudwara at Patna; was built in remembrance of the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, and was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh. This Gurudwara is most certainly the root of Sikhism in the eastern part of India.
  • Botanical and Zoological Garden, Patna: The campus is full of vegetation, with a big pond in the middle and numerous jungle trails make it a very interesting place especially for children. The park lays claim to be the home to more than 300 species of trees, herbs and shrubs.
  • Congress Maidan, Patna: It is a symbol of the Indian independence movement in Bihar. The maidan was used to hold meetings during the pre-independence period by great leaders like Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Jawahar lal Nehru, Jaya Prakash Narayan, and others. The statue of the first Bihar Deputy Chief Minister cum finance Minister Late Anugrah Narain Sinha is installed here.
  • Darbhanga House, Patna: It is also referred to as Nav Lakha building. It was built by Maharaja Sir Kameshwar Singh of Darbhanga. The building along the banks of Ganges is known to house a Kali Mandir, a revered place of worship of the goddess Durga.
  • Golghar, Patna: It is an innovative attempt at redefining grain storage. Apart from its very idiosyncratic architectural nature Golghar, boasts of offering a panoramic view of the entire city in the backdrop of the Ganges. The view is breathtaking in every sense of the word.
  • Gandhi Maidan, Patna: It is the major landmark of the city’s map. It was previously known as Patna lawns. Gandhi Maidan is a centrally located ground in Patna. It enjoys great political and commercial eminence and major hubs can be located around it.
  • Gurudwara Lal Bila Maini, Patna: It is the house where King Fateh Chand Maini resided. The young Guru Gobind Sinigh visitedthe childless Queen and soothe her through spirituality. The Queen offered a meal of boiled and salted gram which is served as Prasad at the Gurudwara.
  • Gurudwara Gobind Ghat, Patna: It is located on the banks of the river Ganga and is in the vicinity of Takht Sri Patna Sahib. Also known as Kangan Ghat where Guru Gobind Singh had thrown his gold bangle as a young child.
  • Kargil Chowk, Patna: It is a War memorial and was established in year 2000 in the vicinity of the Gandhi Maidan. It is erected in the memory of all those who had sacrificed their lives in the Kargil war.
  • Gurdwara Handi Sahib, Patna: It is situated in Danapur which is approximately 20 km west of old Patna City. The family of Guru Teg Bahadur after leaving Patna Sahib made their first halt here.
  • Maner Sharif, Patna: It is home to the tombs of Sufi saints Makhdoom Yahya Maneri and Makhdoom Shah Daulat. The tombs are known as Bari Dargah (the great shrine) and Chhoti Dargah (the small shrine). Maner is known for its uniquely prepared laddu. The local vendors claim that the the laddus are made using the sugar-sweet waters of the Sone river.
  • Martyr’s Memorial, Patna: It is a life size statue of seven celebrated leaders who lost their life in the Quit India Movement. The memorial has been erected to show respect and gratitude to the fearless heroes.
  • Naghol Kothi, Patna: It was built during the British Raj, by a mughal architect and is grand example of Mughal architecture. The building is enveloped by a beautiful garden.
  • Qila House, Patna: It is also known as Jalan House, The place is a privately owned residential house. The Quila House has been home to five generations of the Jalan family since 1919 and is known for the collection of objects’ d’art and antique.
  • Padri Ki Haveli, Patna: It is also known as St. Mary’s Church, which is the oldest church in Bihar. It was built by Roman Catholics on their arrival at Bihar.
  • Phulwari Sharif, Patna: It is known as the ancient hub of Sufism and was frequented by many legendary Sufi saints. The Sufi saints of the ancient times had made Bihar one of the headquarters of religious, social, and cultural developments.
  • Sadakat Ashram, Patna: It was founded by Mazaharul Haque as an icon of Hindu-Muslim solidarity. The place is the headquarters from where the independence movement in the state was piloted. A museum exhibiting his personal belongings is a crowd puller.
  • Srikrishna Science Centre, Patna: It is a great place to visit. Some of the major attractions are Fun Science Gallery, Popular Science Gallery, Vishvaroopa, 3D Show, oceans, Jurrasic Park and Evolution.
