Pithoragarh is a prominent district in the state of Uttarakhand. Pithoragarh serves as a gateway to the mighty Himalayan ranges. Pithoragarh is also known as the little Kashmir of Uttarakhand. It is said that Pithoragarh is named after the king Prithvi Raj Chauhan who ruled there for decades. It is a beautiful region which has a deep history in its origin. Pithoragarh is a perfect place for trekkers and nature lovers. It is also an ideal place for picnic where one can enjoy the nature kissed beauty along with family. It is a visual delight for every tourist. During the reign of the Pal and Chand dynasties, many ancient temples and forts were constructed here. For a short period of time, it was controlled by the Brahm Kings in the 15th century. Later, the Chand Dynasty ruled over this region till it came under the hands of British rule. During the British rule, various churches, mission schools, and buildings were built. It is believed that this is the place where the famous sage Kapil meditated at this site according to folklore. Tourist can visit the Kapileshwar Mahadev Temple, Thal Kedar, Ashur Chulaa, Nakuleshwar Temple and other local sightseeing.

  • Arjuneshwar Temple, Pithoragarh: Arjuneshwar temple is a famous temple in Pithoragarh. It is believed that this temple was built by Arjuna from Mahabharata. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
  • Nakuleshwar Temple, Pithoragarh: It is a well-known religious site for devotees. The Khajuraho architecture style attracts a lot of tourist and historians. According to the mythology, this temple was constructed by two Pandavas – Nakul and Sahedev.  
  • Pithoragarh Fort, Pithoragarh: Pithoragarh Fort is one of the major tourist attraction in Pithoragarh. It is a historic architecture situated on the hilltop. This fort was built by Gorkhas during Chand period in 1789.
  • Kapilaswar cave, Pithoragarh: Kapilaswar cave is another major tourist attraction dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is situated at 3km from Pithoragarh. To worship the deity placed in the complex, one has to travel 10 m into the cave.
  • Dhwaj Temple, Pithoragarh: It is a famous Hindu temple which attracts a lot of devotees from all over India. This temple is dedicated to both Lord Shiva and Goddess Jayanti. This is a well-known pilgrimage lies at 10 km from Pithoragarh by road.
