Puri is one of the renowned city in the state of Odisha situated on the Bay of Bengal. The origin of the name of Puri has been derived from ancient history. Puri is also known as spiritual capital of Odisha. According to history, there are several names of this city Puri. The ancient name of this city was known as Charitra, which was mentioned by the Chinese pilgrim Hiuen Tsang as Che-li-ta-lo. The town become famous after the temple of Purusottama Jagannath, constructed by Chodaganga Deva. It is a seat of Vaisnavism and famous as the abode of Purusottama (Lord Vishnu), but it got changed to Jagannath (Lord of the Universe). It was popularly called as PurusottamaKshetra. After the 12th-century Jagannath Temple located in the city, it is alo known as Jagannath Puri. Puri as a famous pilgrimage destination has a charm of its own with vivacious and narrowly crowded streets. It is believed that the Sabaras, a tribal group who predated the Dravidians and the Aryans, worshipped the Lord Jagannath as Nilamadhab, and made images of red tree trunks. Later, the deity was adopted by Brahmins. This destination is also referred as oldest and one of the four Char Dhams in India. Rath Yatra is one of the most prominent festival that is celebrated with great significance attended by millions of people every year.

  • Jagannath Temple. Puri: Jagannath Temple is one of the oldest temple and Hindu pilgrimage place situated in the state of Odisha. It is one of the four major Dhamas of India. It is world’s famous temple and greatest tourist attraction of Puri. It is a land of Lord Jagannath, which is also known as Lord of Universe. This land is famous for Rath Yatra that has a high recall value across the world.
  • Puri Beach, Puri: Puri Beach is a popular and serene beach in India. There is an interesting fact about this beach is that on daytime the breeze from sea comes to land and the opposite occurs in the evening but In Puri it is observed to be just the reverse. After visiting the Jagannath temple, one can come here for refreshment and enjoy the day and evening in the beach.
  • Chilika Wildlife Sanctuary, Puri: Chilika lake is Asia's biggest internal salt water pond. It is one of the most supportive ecosystem in the name of Chilka Lake Sanctuary in the region. Chilika Wildlife Sanctuary has varieties of flora and fauna which is favourably known for its beautiful sunrise and sunset views.
  • Gundicha Ghar Temple, Puri: Gundicha Ghar Temple is a Hindu temple. This temple is also known as the Garden House of Jagannath surrounded by compound walls on all sides. It is one of the most renowned temples and sacred temple of Puri. Gundicha Ghar Temple is the key segment of the well-known for Rath Yatra festival.
