Roorkee is an important tourist place located in the state of Uttarakhand. The geographic base makes this city more popular among the countrymen which is an interesting feature of Roorkee. Previously this city was called as ‘Rurki’, which has been derived from the name of the wife of the Rajput tribal chief called as ‘RURI’. It is said that during the period of Mughal, this city was first found in Ain-e Akbari by Abul Fazal. The city is renowned for its IIT institute and cantonments. In the recent year, it has shown appreciable and remarkable progress in every sphere of activity in the city. The occurrence of world class institutions lures hundreds of students. Solani Aqueduct, Roorkee: Solani Aqueduct was built in the year 1846 by British. It was built over Old Ganga Nahar which is also known as Old Upper Ganga Canal. It is one of the best creations of engineering in the whole Uttarakhand state. It is around 2.2km away from Roorkee.

IIT, Roorkee: IIT in Roorkee is the oldest technical institute of Asia constructed in the year 1847. Main objective to established this Institute is to teach the engineers about the construction of Ganga Canal. It is one of the best technogolical institutes in the whole world.

Piran Kaliyar Sharif, Roorkee: It is another popular ‘Mazaar’ of Hazrat Alladdin Ali Ahmed 'Sabir', a respected Sufi saint of the 13th century. It was also known as 'Sabir paak'. This blessed holy place is an outstanding example of the harmony and unity among all beliefs.
