Sasaram is administrative headquarters of Rohtas District and is located in Bihar. Known for its rich history, Sasaram is birthplace of Sher Shah Suri, who ruled over Delhi and much of northern India after defeating Mughal Emperor Humayun. The history of Sasaram dates back to Magadh Empire. Rock edict near Sasaram confirm it was also part of Mauryan Empire. Later it became part of all major dynasties in Northern and Eastern India such as Pushyabhuti, Gupta, Pala dynasty etc. Sasaram is known for old and heritage buildings. Some famous places in Sasaram are Tomb of Sher Shah Suri, Rohtasgarh Fort, which is considered as one of the largest hill forts in India, Tomb of Hasan Khan Sur, tomb belonging to father of Ser Shah Suri, Maa Tara Chandi Temple and Ashokan Inscription and Rock-cut Cave. Some natural features near Sasaram are Tons Falls and Kaimur Hills.

Main Attractions
  • Tomb of Sher Shah Suri, Sasaram: It situated in Sasaram in the middle of a man-made lake, with the look of a floating monument. It rises from a stone terrace, which is placed on a platform that is reachable through a flight of steps. Its upper terrace is enclosed by a castle parapet wall having octagonal domed chambers at its four corners.
  • Maa Tara Chandi Temple, Sasaram: The temple is dedicated to Maa Tra Chandi, which is a form of Goddess Kali, and is situated at a kilometer from the Chandan Shaheed Hill.
  • Manjhar Kund and Dhua Kund, Sasaram: These two waterfalls are situated in a city of Sasaram. It has the capacity of generating 50-100 MW of electricity, when utilized to their maximum potential. Every year on Raksha Bandhan, a fair is also organized in the premises of these waterfalls.
