Satara is known as among the fastest growing cities in India. Literally Satara means ‘seven hills’. Satara, a city of glorious history is known to stretch over 2200 years. This beautiful city was first ruled by the Rashtrakuta Dynasty. Then it is taken over by the Chalulya Dynasty. Later, in the 17th Century after the Muslim invasion, the district of Satara served as the seat of the Maratha Empire. It is a beautiful city with rich cultural heritage lined with amazing temples and forts. Satara city is blessed with amazing natural beauty due to its favorable weather. Tourism has played an important role in development of the city life. It offers the quintessential tourist to explore many tourist locations. The Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary and the Mayani Bird Sanctuary are two examples of Satara’s variety in terms of flora and fauna.   • Ajinkyatara Fort, Satara: Literally, Ajinkyatara Fort means ‘The Impregnable Stars’. It is one of the best forts in the district of Satara in Maharashtra. It holds a quite a historical importance during the rule of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 16th century. From the top of this fort, one can have the spectacular views of Satara city. Some key places to see in the fort are – bastions on the fort, temples and the palace.
  • Kaas Plateau, Satara: The Kaas Plateau is also known as the “Kaas Pathar”.  Kaas Plateau is popular for the Kaas Plateau of Flowers that is listed as UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site that falls under the Sahyadri region of the Western Ghat. It is home to numerous species of plants and herbs alluring most of the tourist from all over India as well as from abroad. Best time to visit this place is just after the monsoon season or starting September month.
  • Kaas Lake, Satara: The name of Kaas Lake is given after the Kaas Plateau. Kaas Lake is one of the most picturesque lakes in the district of Satara. It is a peaceful and great place for the locals to roam around in the evening to take some fresh air as the lake is surrounded by Lush green mountains. 
  • The Thosegarh Falls, Satara: The Thosegarh Waterfalls is one of the most attractive tourist destination places in Satara district. It is a scenic spot located near the small village of Thoseghar, situated at a distance of 20km from Satara city. It is calm and tranquil with a clean lake and dark woods in a hilly area. This is also a best place for picnic spot.
  • Sajjangarh Fort, Satara: Saijaingarh Fort is another popular tourist attraction in Satara. Saijangarh means ‘Fort of Good People’. This fort was known by the name of Asvalayana Rishi, who lived here from ancient time. It is the final resting place of Sant Ramdas in 17th century India, who was born in 1608. Apart from this it is a popular place of pilgrimage.
