Sibsagar is one of the most historical city of Assam, which is located at 362.8kms from Guwahati. The city is bounded by the Naga Hills and Arunachal Pradesh and the Brahmaputra River in the north, which is renowned for its diverse and rich biodiversity.It is fast developing town is an importantcenter for the tea and oil industries in India. It was the capital of the Ahom kingdom, who ruled for more than six hundred years before British period. Literally means 'the ocean of Lord Shiva', which is the home of three major ancient temples such as the Shivadol, Vishnudol and the Devidol, these temples were established by Kuwori Ambika, she was the of the Swargadeo Siba Singha. The major remarkable attraction of the city is Sibsagar tank, which is about 200 year old.

Main Attractions
  • Rang Ghar, Sibsagar: It was built by King Pramutta Singha of Ahom dynasty, of Sibsagar is place of tourist attraction. It is a two-storey oval-shaped pavilion where the royal family used to watch sports events.
  • Sibsagar Lake, Sibsagar: Sibsagar Lake or Sibsagar Tank is an artificial lake which was built by Queen Ambika, wife of King Shiva Singha, in the year 1734. Sibsagar town was named after this lake which is situated at the center of the town. There are parks, gardens, museum, masjid, Buddhist monastery, church and temples on the banks of Sibsagar Lake.
  • Shivadol, Sibsagar: The temple is situated on the banks of Sibsagar Lake of Sibsagar. It dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple was built in 1734 by Bar Raja Ambika, queen of Ahom King SwargadeoSiba Singha.
  • Vishnudol, Sibsagar: This renowned temple was constructed by Kuwori Ambika.  The temple is devoted to the Lord Vishnu.
  • Devidol: Devidol temple is devoted to Goddess Durga. Durga Puja is one of the most significant festival of the temple, which is celebrated twice a year.
  • TalatalGhar: It is a palace which was initially constructed as an army base, which contains two secret tunnels, and three floors below ground level. It were used as exit routes during the Ahom wars.
  • Sivasagar Tai Museum: Located at the banks of the Sivasagar, which houses the artefacts from the Ahom kingdoms and their rulers such as swords, vestments, manuscripts, goblets, and other household utensils of the kingdom.

Getting There
  • By Air - A number of airports are situated close to Sibsagar. The nearest one is the Rowriah airport in Jorhat. From there, Sibsagar is only one and a half hours journey, by road. Besides this, airports are also located in Dibrugarh (Mohanbari airport), Dimapur (Dimapur airport) and in Tezpur (Salonibari airport).
  • By Railway - The nearest railway station from Sibsagar is Simaluguri, which is only 16 kms away. Apart from this, an important railway station is also located in Dibrugarh town, where trains are available on a regular basis, connecting the town not only to the other areas within the state, but also to places like Calcutta and Delhi.
  • By Road – In accordance with the rule passed by the National Highway Act, NH-37 was constructed in Assam, with the sole purpose of making communication by roadways easier and more convenient. The highway traverses the entire width of Assam and covers places like Guwahati, Nagaon, Jorhat, Sibsagar, Dinjan, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia.
