Situated in the state of Andhra Pradesh of Kurnool district, Srisailam is home to renowned Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Temple which is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples in India. Mallikarjuna Temple lies on the flat top of Nallamala Hills. The temple is considered to be one of the most important temples among Shavites and has played a dominant role in the Hindu religious, cultural and social history since ancient times. The town has frequent mentions in the old Hindu Puranas and the great epic Mahabharata. The town is and is devoted to Lord Shiva. Srisailam is also known for Nagarjunsagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve which the largest tiger reserve in India. The reservoir also contains places of historic importance such as Nagarjunakonda, a well-known a historical Buddhist town. This area contains several rock shelters and cave temples including: Akka Mahadevi Bhilam, Dattatreya Bhilam, Umaa Maheswaram, Kadalivanam, and Palankasari.

Main Attractions
  • Srisailam Dam, Srisailam: - The Srisailam Dam constructed across River Krishna and placed in a deep canyon, in the thickly wooded Nallamala hill range. The dam has a length of 512 metres and an elevation of around 300 metres.
  • Bhramaramba Devi Temple, Srisailam: - The most renowned temples in Srisailam is the Bhramaramba Devi Temple. It is situated on the southern bank of River Krishna, on the Nallamala hills, at a height of 457 meters, above sea level. It is dedicated to the consort of Lord Mallikarjuna, Devi Bhramaramba or Goddess Parvati.
  • Mallela Theertam, Srisailam: - The Mallela Theertam waterfall is situated amidst a dense forest, at a distance of 50 kilometres from Srisailam. Tourists need to avail the muddy, bumpy road and around 250 steps down the valley, in order to reach the waterfall.
  • Srisailam sanctuary, Srisailam: - It is one of the largest Tiger Reserves in India, situated in Srisailam. The sanctuary is covered by dry deciduous forests that include bamboo thickets and scrubs. The sanctuary houses a variety of animals. The down waters of the Srisailam Dam houses several crocodiles, where a breeding program has been supported by the local government.
  • Sakshi Ganapati Temple, Srisailam: - There is a black idol of Lord Ganapati or Ganesha is enshrined in this temple. The temple derived its name from the legend that the idol is the witness or ‘Sakshi’ for the devotees visiting this place.
  • Akka Mahadevi Caves, Srisailam: - A Shiva Linga naturally existed in the dark and deep end of the cave and it is believed that Akka Mahadevi did penance in this cave.
  • Hemareddy Mallamma Temple, Srisailam: - Is located on the western side of the Mallikarjuna Temple, about half kilometer away. The temple was built by Karnataka Veerashaiva Reddy Samaj in 2010. This temple is visited by innumerable pilgrims every year. An ashram is also situated adjacent to the temple.
