Udupi is a city located in the state of Karnataka. Udupi is a temple town famous for Krishna Temple and temple cuisine popularly known as Udupi cuisine which is vegetarian in nature. Located 60 km from Mangalore following the costal line Udupi came to prominence with Krishna Mutt or Krishna Temple which was established by Hindu saint Madhavachrya who is known for Dvaita or dualism philosophy in 13th Century. Due to this Udupi became an important center of Vaishnava philosophy. Udupi falls on the western side of Western Ghats and is bound by sea. The region is very scenic and is covered around with thick forests and vegetation. Known for its tropical climate Udupi and usually is moderate throughout the year. Apart from Krishna Mutt Udupi is known for many other temples such as the ancient temples of Ananteshvara and Chandramaulishvara, Ambalapady Mahakali Temple, The Kadiyali Mahishamardini etc. There are many wildlife sanctuary and waterfalls near Udupi namely Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary, Barkana Falls etc.

Main Attractions
  • Sri Krishna Temple, Udupi: It is one of the holiest Hindu temples in this region. The temple is devoted to God Krishna. The temple is situated within the premise of an Ashram which known as Shri Krishna Math. It was established in the 13th century by the Vaishnavite saint Shri Madhwacharya, who was the founder of the Dvaita school of Vedanta. The key attraction of this temple is Navagraha Kitiki, a window with nine holes, from where the Lord is worshipped.
  • Anantheshwara Temple, Udupi: Anantheshwara Temple is another major shrine of Udupi.  It was built in the 8th century C.E during the reign of the Alupas. The temple is adjacent to Sri Krishna Temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It believed that the temple was associated with Madhvacharya, the Hindu philosopher who taught his disciples within its complex.
  • Kaup Beach, Udupi: Located at the distance of about 12kms from Udupi, Kaup Beach is one of the most amazing beach of this region. This beautiful beach is known for its 100 ft high lighthouse, located on the small hills, which was constructed in 1901 by British. This splendid beach offers tranquil ambience dotted with lush green palm trees. The ruins of an ancient fort which was established by Tippu Sultan and the three Mariamma temples are also located here.
  • Ambalapady Mahakali Temple, Udupi: It is one of the most popular pilgrimages of Udupi. The temple is located Ambalapady which renowned as the land of Lord Sri Krishna.  The temple is dedicated to goddess Mahakali. It believed that Mahakali Devi will relieve of their sins and get solution to their problems.
  • St. Mary Beach, Udupi: It is a beach located on the Island called St. Mary Island or Coconut Island. It is the set of four small islands in the Arabian Sea lies at off the coast of Malpe in Udupi. It is accessible via ferry boat. The key attraction of this amazing beach is surrounded by columnar basaltic lava structures and is known for its scenic and refreshing view.
  • Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary, Udupi: Located in the Western Ghats, Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most popular tourist attractions of this Udupi. The Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over an area of about 88.40 km. It was established in 1974. It has tropical wet evergreen forests, west coast semi evergreen forests and southern secondary moist mixed deciduous forests. The Sanctuary is the home to various animal species such as tiger, leopard, dhole (wild dog), jackal, jungle cat, Indian wild boar, sambar, spotted deer, muntjac (barking deer), mouse deer, lion tailed macaque, giant flying squirrel, king cobra etc. It is named after renowned Someshwara temple, which lies within the sanctuary. The temple is dedicated to presiding deity ‘Lord Someshwara’
