Ukhrul is also called as Hunphun. It is the highest hill station in the state of Manipur. It is the home of the Tangkhul Naga, is a tribe living in the Indo-Burma border area. After a long historical research, it is found that the Tangkhuls settled here during the rule of Thawanthaba in the 13th century. Ukhrul is a beautiful and wonderful land surrounded by lush greenery and high hills and peaks. It can well-described as virgin landscape of Manipur. This is a town one shouldn’t miss. Ukhrul is such a destination preferred by numerous tourist places and is an education hub for Tangkhul villages. It is like heaven on the Earth. The greenery of the land gives you a soothing effect on the tourist’s eyes and a refreshing mind. It is one of the coming up serious tourist destination in India with innovative ideas because as the land has much more to offer. Ukhrul consists of two primary rivers namely - Tuyeng and Maklang. Beside this there are several tourist attraction places in Ukhrul such as – the Duncan Ecological Park, Kachouphung Lake, Khangkhui Mangsor Cave, The Khayang Peak and so on. The Khayang Peak is the highest peak of Ukhrul district that truly gives a complete paranomic view of the entire region. 

Main Attractions
  • The Duncan Ecological Park, Ukhrul: It is an ecological park and one of the famous place to visit in Ukhrul district. In 1984, this park was established. It is spread in 3km of area, situated in the natural environments as everyone need a park for relaxation. Best place for various people going for meditation and exercises. It is also a popular picnic spot for local visitors.
  • Kachouphung Lake, Ukhrul: Kachouphung Lake is also called as Azoa Jenephiu Magi Lake, situated on the slopes of the Achuwa Magi Hills. During the rainy season the size of the lake usually increases and is roughly shaped forming the Indian map. It is 7 kilometres from Khayang Falls. As the lake consists of different colourful fishes, pisciculture is practiced in this lake.
  • Khangkhui Mangsor Cave, Ukhrul: It is a cave system in Cretaceous limestone, this cave is also known as Khangkhui Limestone Cave. Inside the cave there are two chamber built by the King named Mangsorwung. There is a beautiful legend behind this cave that is narrated to the tourist who comes to visit and has become an interesting tourist attraction in Manipur.
