Wayanad is a district filled with glorified history and culture nestled among the mountains of the Western Ghats. This district shares the border with Tamil Nadu and Karnataka considered as the greener part of Kerala. It is situated in the north-east of Kerala state. It is also called as the “Green Paradise” of Kerala. On 1st of November 1980, this district was formed as the 12th district in Kerala. Wayanad lies in the Nilgiries biosphere. Famous for Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary bestowed with lush green forests and rich wildlife. Including the sanctuary, Western Ghats and the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve is selected for World Heritage Site under consideration by the World Heritage Committee. In 2014, the government of Kerala included Edakkal caves in Wayanad was included in the draft list of global heritage sites that is known for the prehistoric rock etchings. Wayanad has innumerable tourist spots and many interesting places that shouldn’t be missed from your travel diary. It is a great place for nature and photography lovers.   • Thirunelli Temple, Wayanad: Thirunelli Temple is an ancient temple that is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, located in the forest region of Brahmagiri, is known as the Kashi of South. Once it was an important pilgrimage place for Hindus till the16th century. There are no proper records of this temple. Earlier, devotees who visited Trissilery usually take this temple in their route.
  • Varambetta Mosque, Wayanad: Varambetta Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Wayanad. It is a beautiful mosque that was constructed about 300 years ago. It has a great importance that presents the architectural relics of the town. It is a pilgrimage centre for Muslim. Apart from this Maithani Palli and Kalpatta Town Juma Masjid are other two important pilgrimage centres in the district.
  • Sentinel Rock Waterfalls, Wayanad: Sentinal Rock Waterfalls is also known as Soochipara Falls (Needle Rock) surrounded by Deciduous, Evergreen and Montane forests. It is one of the most attractive falls in the district. There is a pool that is ideal for a quick dip.
  • Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, Wayanad: Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is also known as Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is an abode of rich flora and fauna. This Sanctuary was established in 1973 as a wildlife sanctuary. It is the second largest wildlife sanctuary in Kerala. Tourist can see elephant, tiger, panthers, jungle cats, civet cats, monkeys, wild dogs etc. Beside this one can also sight some maruthi, karimaruthi, rosewood, venteak, vengal etc. as it is blessed with varieties of trees and other plants.
  • Kuruva Island, Wayanad: Kuruva Island is also known as Kuruva Dweep. It is densely populated with rich flora and fauna. This dwelling forest attracts most of the tourist. This island is home to rare species of birds, orchids, herbal plants etc. The boats and rafts are provided by the Kerala Tourism Department and it will take few hours to cover each and every island.
  • Pookot Lake, Wayanad: Pookat Lake is one of the most beautiful and a scenic freshwater lake in the district Wayanad. Pookode is a natural fresh water lake nestling amid evergreen forests. The shape of the lake is of India's map. There are boating facilities, a children’s park, handicrafts and spices emporium and even a fresh water aquarium. It is the perfect oasis to enjoy both fun and peaceful tranquility.
  • Banasura Dam, Wayanad: Banasura Dam is the largest earthen dam in India and the second largest in Asia. It is an ideal place for picnic with a breathtaking view of the reservoir formed by the dam. Tourist can go skimming the waters in a speedboat. This is a nature lover’s paradise. Best destination for photography.
