Dehradun is the gateway to some famous tourist destination such as Nainital and Mussoorie, lies between the sacred rivers Ganga and Yamuna. It is the capital city of the state Uttarakhand bejeweled like a glittering jewel in the lower Himalayan range. Being the capital of Uttarakhand, it is known for number of elite boarding schools. There are many stories behind the name of this city, Dehradun. This amazing city is also popularly known as ‘Abode of Drona’ from the name of ‘Guru Dronacharya’ of Mahabharata. It is said to be the birthplace of Dronacharya who was the guru of Kauravas and Pandavas. The picturesque beauty of this land is eye-catching.   • Tapkeshwar Temple, Dehradun: Tapkeshwar Temple is a popular tourist attraction place in Dehradun. It is a famous temple dedicated to Lord Shiva lies on the bank of seasonal river named Asan. This temple is known for the one of the oldest Shivling in the cave. There is a cave named Drona Cave after Guru Dronacharya. Thousands of pilgrims visit this temple to pay homage to Drona Cave. Every devotee can see water drops dripping at Shivling all the time.
  • Robber's Cave, India, Dehradun: Robber’s Cave is also known as Guchhupani. The cave has a highest fall of about 10 metres. The cave is divided into two parts. It is a natural cave formation where rivers flow inside the cave. It is a favourite picnic place for youths and fun-loving enthusiasts. Tourist can experience the beautiful natural rift with legs in the freezing water that feels amazing.
  • Malsi Deer Park, Dehradun: Malsi Deer Park is another popular tourist spot after Rajaji National Park located in Dehradun. It is a Zoological park which is now developed as famous family picnic spot and outings. This park is located at a distance of 10km from Dehradun. Visitors can also spot wide variety of birds, young deer, two-horned deer, peacock, tiger and Neelgai. This park is haven for nature lovers.  
  • Sahastradhara, Dehradun: It is one of the major tourist destination located in Dehradun. The name Sahastradhara means ‘Thousand fold spring’, located at a distance of 14km from Dehradun city. This place is known for Sulphur water pools which has medicinal merits and therapeutic value. There is a manmade water amusement park named ‘Joyland Water Park’ which attracts a lot of tourist from all over India.
  • Mindrolling Monastery, Dehradun: It is one of the major monasteries in the city of Dehradun. In 1676, this monastery was founded by Rigzin Terdak Lingpa. After it was damaged by the Dzungar Mongols from East Turkistan in 1718, it was rebuilt during the reign of the Seventh Dalai Lama (1708–1757). This is a Buddhist religious place which is also known as Tibetan Buddhist Temple. It is a place of immense beauty with spiritual touch.
  • Forest Research Institute, Dehradun: FRI is an important place in Dehradun. Dietrich Brandis founded this as the British Imperial Forest School in 1887. It was declared a deemed university by the University Grants Commission in 1991. It was established in 1906. FRI also contains a museum on forestry and is divided into six sections.
