Almora is a placid hill station in Uttarakhand which falls under the Kumaon region. Almora is also known as the cultural capital of Kumaon.  This magnificent hill station has a fascinating history traced back to ancient time of Mahabharata. The first kingdom was to be established this area was the Katyuri dynasty. After this area was ruled by Chand dynasty during the middle of the 16th century. During their rule, they transfer their capital from Champawat to Almora. Almora was founded around 1560 by Kalyanchand and named as ‘Alam Nagar’ or ‘Rajpur’. Later in 1790, this area was conquered by the Gurkhas and ruled for next 24 years. And in 1815 it was taken over by the British. Almora is known as City Escapists’ Delight because of its Rejuvenating weather, magnificent wildlife, wide range of handicrafts and so on. Natural beauty of Almora has captivated the mind and soul of many visitors. The tranquil atmosphere and carpets of green grass and breeze of cool offers you a respite from your busy life. Almora has many temples and is also an important business hub of Kumaon region that attracts a lot of tourist from all over India.

  • Chitai Golu Devta Temple, Almora: Chitai Golu Devta Temple is a famous temple in Almora situated 09km from Almora. It is dedicated to Gollu or Goljyu Devta (incarnation of Lord Shiva). This temple is the most sacred temples visited by many visitors and devotees.
  • Bright End Corner, Almora: Bright End Corner is another popular tourist attraction in Almora. It is a scenic place situated at 02km from Almora. It is an ideal place to gaze into the panorama of the mighty Himalayas. It is also a picnic spot for the locals. It is just amazing place and best spot for meditation.
  • Martola, Almora: Martola is situated at 10km from Almora situated amidst lush green gardens. It is a picturesque place known for its scenic grandeur. It is a must picnic spot. This place can be reached by a small walk from the place Panuwanaula.
  • Deer Park, Almora: Deer Park in Almora is a must-see tourist attraction surrounded by lush green trees of pine that adds more beauty to the nature. It is located at 3km from Almora. Best for wildlife lovers and photographers. It is most preferable for leisure walk. One can witness endangered species such as deer, leopard and Himalayan black bear.
  • Katarmal Sun Temple, Almora: Katarmal Sun Temple is an ancient temple built by a Katyuri king named Katarmalla in the 9th century. This temple is situated at 19 km from Almora. It architectural style of the temple exhibit the skill of ancient artists. It is the second most beautiful temple after the Konark Sun Temple of Odisha.  
  • Kasar Devi Temple, Almora: Kasar Devi Temple is in the Kasar Devi village. The place got the name from this temple which dates to the 2nd century CE. In 1890s, Swami Vivekananda visited this place and meditated here for days. From then people came to know more about this place. It has become popular tourist destination that attracts trekkers and tourists across India as well as from abroad. “Kasar Devi Fair” is an important fair that is celebrated here.
  • Nanda Devi Temple, Almora: Nanda Devi Temple is said to have been the Goddess revered by the kings of the Garhwal and Kumaon regions. This temple is dedicated to Nanda Devi who is believed to be the destroyer of evil. The Ashtami of Bhadra Shukla is the most popular fair organized in Almora.
