Bhimtal is another popular tourist destination located in the state of Uttarakhand under Nainital district. It is an ancient place named after famous character in Indian mythology- Bhima of Mahabharata. Blessed with abundance natural beauty of it is considered as a jewel of Uttarakhand. Bhimtal lake is one of the most picturesque lake surrounded by lush green mountains. It is a wonderful chance for visitors and tourist to relax and rejuvenate from daily routine. After the Anglo-Nepalese War Bhimtal came under British ruler. This place offers several tourist attractions. The Bhimeshwara temple is a famous Mahadev temple in Bhimtal which has a huge religious significance.It is believed that Bhima built this temple by Baz Bahadur of Chand Dynasty in the 17th century. Tourist can have a wonderful experience by visiting the Bhimtal Lake. It is an ideal spot for bird watching and photography. Bhimtal is one of the best weekend holiday destination from Delhi.

  • Bhimtal Lake, Bhimtal: Bhimtal Lake is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Bhimtal. Bhimtal is known as the “lake district of India”. The name of this lake was given after Bhima, who was the one of the Pandavas of the epic story of Mahabharata.  Drinking water supply of this city comes from this lake.
  • Bhimtal Aquarium, Bhimtal: Bhimtal Aquarium is in the middle of the lake. It was created by the Nainital Lake Development Authority. Fishes from countries like Mexico, South Africa and China can be seen here with charming background.
  • Hanuman Garhi, Bhimtal: Hanuman Garhi is near the Bhimtal Lake. There is a big statue of Hanuman. The place is clean and peaceful. It is located at around 3km from Tallital. It attracts many devotees.
  • Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple, Bhimtal: Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple is an ancient temple dates to the period of Mahabharata. It is believed that Bhima built this temple by Baz Bahadur, king of Kumaon region in 17th century. During Shivratri festival, many devotees gathered here and offer prayers to Lord Shiva.
  • Butterfly Research Centre, Bhimtal: Butterfly Research Centre is another popular tourist destination located on the hillock near Bhimtal Lake. There are about 1300 species of butterflies found in India. The collection is housed in a 150-year-old colonial bungalow. Bhimtal is a butter lover’s paradise.
  • Nal Damyanti Tal, Bhimtal: Nal Damyanti Lake is a small mythological lake of Bhimtal. It seemed like a perfect picnic spot. It is a secret serene place to enjoy the beauty of nature. The name of this lake got from king Nal and Queen Damyanti who once lived here happily and the people in their kingdom loved them too.
