Chakrata is a magical hill station in the state of Uttarakhand embellished by the sun-kissed Himalayan ranges. Amidst the lush greenery, it is located on the top of the Yamuna valley. Chakrata was the part of the Dehradun district. The history of Chakrata dates to 2nd century BC., known for the rock edict of the Mauryan king Ashoka discovered by John Forest, in 1860. Chakrata is now a part of the Indian Army cantonment. It offers mesmerising sceneries to trekkers and nature lovers. It is an ideal gateway for the backpackers.
