Gangotri is a picturesque pilgrimage tourist destination in Uttarakhand. Gangotri is a holy place where river Ganga descended from heaven. It is said that Lord Shiva released Ganga from his luscious locks and transformed herself into mighty river. It is one of the most important place where Goddess Ganga is worshipped. Gangotri is also known as ‘The abode of Goddess Ganga’. Bestowed with natural beauty and serenity attracts a lot of tourist from all over India. It is also well-known for some trekking routes like Tapovan, Gaumukh, Gamgotri glacier, Shivling peaks etc. Gangotri is one of the four Char Dham in India. The temple residing in Gangotri is dedicated to goddess Ganga. The Gangotri Temple is situated on the right banks of the Bhagirathi river. Lakhs of pilgrims visit here every year between May and October. There are tourist attractions in and around Gangotri such as Topavan, Gangotri temple, Pandava Gufa, Bhairon Ghati, and so on. It is a perfect the destination to breath in a pious atmosphere.

  • Surya Kund, Gangotri: It is another important pilgrimage place. It is a beautiful waterfall. Tourist or devotees visiting Gangotri must visit this place. It falls from height of the Bhagirathi River that makes a spectacular view for the tourists.
  • Jalmagna Shivlinga, Gangotri: It is a famous Shivling which remains immersed in the Gangotri. The Jalmagna Temple is located near the Gangotri temple. It is believed that Lord Shiva held the Ganges in his matted locks.  
  • Bhojbasa, Gangotri: Bhojbasa is a scenic spot that can be reach by trekking. It is located at 14km from Gangotri. It is a great place to visit. One can go for camping and enjoy. One should carry ample of warm clothes, gloves to cover your body.
  • Bhaironghati, Gangotri: It is located at 10km from Gangotri town. There is a temple named Bhairav Nath. It is another major tourist attraction in Gangotri surrounded by lust dense forest.
