Jageshwar is an important pilgrimage destination in India. It has a great religious value as Jageshwar is the 8th Jyotirling among the Twelve. It is a Hindu pilgrimage town which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is a famous tourist destination that receives thousands of devotees from all over India. Jageshwas is well known for its ancient temples dating 9th to 13th century AD. Some of the temples are - Dandeshwar Temple, Chandi-ka-Temple, Jageshwar Temple, Kuber Temple, Mritunjaya Temple, Nanda Devi. The construction of these temples has no specific history but according to the ASI, they belong to the post-Gupta and pre-medieval eras. It is believed that renovation of the temple was done by Adi Shankaracharya who once visited this place and re-established many other temples here.This region is an Abode of Lord Shiva as described in the ancient treatise Prasadmandanam. This place acts as a meditation center due to serene environment.
